Please go into Peach Bower and sign the petition they have to keep their Car Park from being closed down 1 September 2011.

michaelw2 --- 13 years ago -

what car park is that then?

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

Where the heck are people going to park to pick up their food?! Who decided it would be a good idea to close an already small parking lot? It seems to me they NEED a place for customers to park, so whoever came up with the idea to close it must have a few screws loose.

Peace --- 13 years ago -

How is that place? Like really good? :)

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

LOVE Peach Bower...you can just park at the car park right around the corner & walk there...its takes less than a minute to walk.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

My wife & I recently "discovered" Peach Bower. We ate in once (Christmas time) and it was great. The other times we have gotten our food to go.

Question, if the parking lot is going to be closed....what is to become of it? Are they going to turn it into a road?

I wasn't aware of any other parking lot, when my wife & I go we are stressed out about traffic and finding the little narrow street that leads to that parking lot. We cringe when we have to drive away from the base areas. Lol. Sometimes I envy the single people that have no children and ride little bicycles everywhere. They don't realize how lucky they truly are. They don't need parking lots. Or babysitters.

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

It is the council that is closing it and I am not sure of the reason. Peach Bower is amazing and I love the little car park in front its one of the few places that it is actually "easy" to go get take away food from.

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

It's not actually a parking lot...its the market square and people never used to park on it until recent years.

michaelw2 --- 13 years ago -

o haha your actually talking about the market square, yeh your not meant to park on that at all, the car park is in fact about in real life terms less than 50 seconds away and is the forest school carpark.

alot of people in brandon (the older generation) basicaly see parking on the market square as pissing on the queen. they have been fighting to get it closed off for a while now. its fair enough giving the actual car park is so close and peach bower wont suffer a loss of trade because people wont be able to park right on the door step.

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

LOL.... Looks like a parking lot to me! Anyways, I guess they did not close it yet and they are still "talking" about it. I guess they would have it closed now during the day and open in the evening.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

Ditto, especially since I always see cars on it....as opposed to people selling items from stands.

Question.....why is it considered peeing on the Queen? Does she dislike parking lots? Is it her parking lot? I'm confused. Did she used to sell items there when it was a "market square"? The Queen is a complete enigma to me, what does she do aside from act as a figurehead? No offense intended, I just always see things like "H.M" on buildings, signs, etc....I guess I just find it hard to understand the Queen when there is a Prime Minister in this country too. Basically a Queen, then a President....are they both in charge? Is the PM more like a VP and the Queen is more like a President? It seems complicated.

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

It doesnt really look like a parking lot...there are benches for people to sit on LOL I wouldnt go sit in a parking lot. I dont see the big deal since there are 2 other parking lots just across the road, it will take less than 2 mins to walk to Peach Bower. LOL

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

Yeah, it really DOES look like a parking lot. Haha, who cares if there are benches there, it still doesn't change how it looks.

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

Lol whatever Im not going to argue such a silly thing. If they put parking lines, then yes it will look more like a car park. But with benches and such its not a parking lot and was never intended to be a parking lot...hence its the MARKET square. lol It's an English thing. It's not even paved or concrete like most parking lots. lol

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

I'm not arguing (I know you aren't accusing me) but honestly it sort of reminds me of the type of parking lot found at Burger King on RAFL or the Commissary. It's brick and looking at it from Google Streetview it does have lines on it like a parking lot. I can see where it could be confusing.

There is odd placement of signs/light posts/flower pots so I can see in that instance where it definitely isn't a parking lot. But honestly it sorta does look like one. Maybe they should put up a fence?

I'm looking at a few of the parking lots nearby and they are pretty small, but there is one that doesn't allow parking....for delivery vehicles only.

I see a parking lot on 25 George Street....it looks like a hike if you bring small children with you. Then you'd have to deal with carrying food (possibly drinks) as well as the possibility of pushing a stroller and/or holding a small child's hand.

The parking lot over near 19 Bury Road is even further away. They should trade places with one of those parking lots.....turn one of them into a Market Square and turn the Market Square into a parking lot.

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

There is an actual parking lot RIGHT around the corner from Peach Bower, easy access if you're taking small kids. It's kinda opposite the pharmacy, near Forest Primary School.

I honestly dont care if they close it or not lol but I dont see it as a big deal as there is a parking lot just a minute walk away. Its funny how people have to park RIGHT outside the door to places. I have a friend who will drive round and round the bx parking lot until a spot opens up near the door, drives me crazy! LOL

My wife is like that. If there isn't a spot then she wants me to drop her off in front of the door, then I go park. Honestly, I don't mind parking far away from places. I just know lots of people who do.....

some may remember when it used to be a road that went in front of the flint knappers, but then they built the market square on it and it had a co-op and such like. now it has a bowling alley and a take away shop which cars crammed out side it. i wouldnt park on it but then i live 2 minutes down the road just past forest school car park which is right next to it anyway. then you have the car park next to the fire station.

and as for my reference to it being like peeing on the queen, i was simply saying that many locals in brandon find it offensive that people dont respect the local towns/culture. it may be a crappy little market but it is our crappy little market.

what really settles the matter is that in england parking areas are sign posted with a white P in a blue background and labled on maps, and the market square is not.

I wasn't aware that the white signs with a "P" on a blue background were meant solely for parking.

I don't think it is people from abroad coming over here and disrespecting your culture. I find it often times in this country they don't make things as clear as they probably could. There is alot of trial & error and guesswork involved to English living for a foreigner.

Where I am from we don't have market squares or anything like that....we actually have "sidewalk sales" that happen every August and they only last for a week. Likewise, with parking lots back home they are generally big empty areas with lines that indicate where a car can park....we don't have signs that indicate "parking". Maybe some places in the states do this....but not where I am from.

I wouldn't say your markets are "crappy"....but I would say they aren't interesting to me as that is not how I grew up. I'm sorry people from here get offended by these types of things as often times I guarantee that isn't the aim of the "offending" people.

I'd like to add that the first time my wife & I ordered from Peach Bower our Tomtom actually led us to that "parking lot". It wasn't us saying "Who cares about their culture! Let's park in the Market square! HAHAHA!". It was more like us being hungry and ordering dinner....then typing it into our Satnav and it taking us directly to that "parking lot". We certainly did not know that were weren't supposed to park there because we weren't the only car there. Quite a few of the patrons picking up orders from there spoke with British accents as well. So, it would seem it isn't just a culture issue.

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

Oh yeh, it definately isn't just Americans doing it! I've parked on there, my parents have, my friends do it...(all British) *I* just dont see the big deal of the locals wanting it to stay the market hill and not a car park since there are several car parks within 2 minutes of Peach Bower. When I was younger, a car would NEVER be on the market hill (unless it was a police car, ambulance etc)

The fruit & veg from Mark on Brandons market are SO good. But it is a tiny market. Norwich, Bury and just bigger places in general have better markets. Ive never been to one in the states so I cant compare.

The only market I've been to in the states...aside from Supermarkets are flea markets.

I used to go to some down by Myrtle Beach South Carolina alot. They were alot of fun and had some crazy deals.....no veggies though.
