So just wondering if there are any preggo mom groups in the area or any other preggo women that just want to hang out. I have a friend of mine that is also pregnant, but neither of us have really found any type of local group or military groups just for expectant mommies. I am starting to see that being pregnant in a foreign country while the hubby works and family is back home is a bit more lonely than we had thought it would be. Any info or suggestions would be great!

I'm pregnant here. I have tons of friends that seemed to be pregnant right now lol.

Try being the stay at home Dad....the wife works long hours and I'm bored to death. There doesn't seem to be ANY guys that are the MilSpouses around here. I'm too tied down to be able to make friends....and I have already been here for three years, we're almost done with our tour.

Good luck though OP! :)

I have noticed plenty of other pregnant women on base, it must be something in the water here, lol. Do you ladies get together for dinners, or movies, anything like that?

Catherine --- 14 years ago -

I agree, plenty of female spouses, very few male spouses, even fewer stay at home dads. You def get my applause on that front!

i havent heard of any pregnancy groups at all... then again i havent really been listening for any. i have a 18month old so i've been hanging out with her. it is very lonely to be pregnant in a foreign country, family back at home in another time zone, and hubby working 10hrs a day if not more. ya know what would be nice... a pregnancy work out group. led by professionals and drs of course. someone to motivate and instruct us in stretches and toning muscles and keeping off those extra pounds from staying hungry CONSTANTLY... and even a post pregnancy take off the baby weight class. apparently Lakenheath has the highest number of pregnant women in all of USAFE, or so i was told by a physician at the ob/gyn.

I don't know, I guess I'm weird I don't feel lonely or anything being pregnant here.

I was pregnant with my daughter in Utah and I'm from Texas so my family missed out on that. I was pregnant last year while husband was deployed (sadly we lost that baby while he was still deployed), and he's a crewcheif so his hours have always been extreme lol.

I just find things to do (or I'm used to it lol). I work out (either at the gym or walking around base), I have my hobbies, and clean my house (which seems like a everyday thing). But I'm not against meeting up for a smoothie or lunch with people.

Not going to lie, I'm addicted to Rugby's Mango and Banana smoothie (when they have them of course!)

Peace --- 14 years ago -

Where is Rugbys? I always see people with delish looking smoothies!!

Mrs. Amy --- 14 years ago -

Its in the Lib Club (its inbetween the little pizza place and shopette without gas).

You walk into the club and take the first right.

They only use fresh fruit and sometimes they don't have them (like on Sunday, I was sad lol). Sooo yummy!

Steph --- 14 years ago -

Had both of my children here, and have never heard of any groups here for pregnant women. Good Luck though :)

Catherine --- 14 years ago -

Hey guys, thanks for the posts. Rugby's is great, I love being able to just go in and relax for a while. As far as the other posts, I am glad that some of you didn't/don't have any loneliness issues while you are here. This post was more for those that DO have a problem with that, and trying to find people and groups for that purpose. Thanks again gals!

Catherine- I'm not there yet, so maybe I shouldn't be piping in with my two cents......but have you thought of starting up a group? I started a playgroup at our current base that has grown by leaps and bounds and is flourishing. If you can find enough interest, you could start a group for pregnant women there. Again, we aren't there yet, but I plan on talking my husband into one more baby ;) so I will more than likely be pregnant while I'm there!

Catherine --- 14 years ago -

Christy, I hadn't thought about it! I've never been one to start those kinda of things, just kinda join in on them. What all was involved when you started your playgroup? It seems like it would involve alot of public awareness/advertising, and organization. Any advice would be appreciated, it's something I might consider!

Mrs. S --- 14 years ago -

I'm pregnant :) Will be for about another 7 weeks lol. There seem to be tons of pregnant woman here, I'm surprised there isn't something set up already.

Catherine --- 14 years ago -

I agree, I'm 22 weeks, and finding anything other than play groups is next to impossible! lol

Christy --- 14 years ago -

Catherine- Trust me, I'm not usually one to start something like that either..........but after 4 years of no friends, I was ready to try something!

I just came up with a catchy name and started a facebook group page. I mostly advertised on our underground and yard sale site........then word of mouth kinda took over.....people are anxious to find other people that they have something in common with.......plus, if there are a ton of pregnant women there, you shouldn't have a problem finding interest. You could have the first "date" at the smoothie place you guys were talking about. Start the facebook page and advertise a little (you don't have to spend any money) and see how much interest is out there. If you need help, let me know!
