I've searched the net', FB, Yahoo groups and have posted several times on AF Crossroads trying to get info. on Grand Forks AFB, ND. With no luck at all!

If anyone here has been stationed at Grand Forks AFB could you please e-mail me? I have a few questions about housing and "where not to live" in the area.

We were stationed there. Housing is really open right now as all the big planes left. In fact, one of my friends still there said they are letting single airmen into regular housing just so it gets used and take care of. They spent a lot of money on the new houses and then everyone left.

I would live on base. The road to town in the winter can get shut down a lot due to weather. The housing is really nice and large due to the amount of days you can't actually spend outside due to winter weather.

In the summer, you get to see the northern lights on the right nights.

It's very windy. 

As far as housing goes off base...if you want to live off base. Stay away from the river. It's been flooding a lot lately when all the snow melts. Not a good idea. The town is rather safe though. Safe enough that most people leave their cars running while they run inside the stores with no one else in them to watch them! Great place to raise kids.

We were stationed at Minot AFB for six years before coming here so we know all about the ND winters. They are such a joy..lol

I have a friend who works at the housing office on base there, I can get her contact info if you like. We moved here from GF almost 2 years ago. The housing on base is nice. A lot of room , just make sure to ask about the basements flooding. I can tell you that a couple of my old neighbors had issues with their basements flooding on Dogwood Dr. 

P.S Just want to add, I'm jealous of you because I miss it there! But, my hometown is an hour away from there and I lived in GF for a good 10 years! The people are nice and it is definately a great place to raise kids. 

Oooohhh Grand Forks is only 5 hours away from the Mall of America!! Oh how I miss that place!
