Hello! My husband and I just found out we will be PCSing to Mildenhall in April of 2014 and I have lots of questions. We are currently stationed in Okinawa Japan. My husband is an E-5 and we have no kids, we were wondering what the housing is like? We have two small dogs also. We have been told by a few people to look for a place in Ely, but I would like to know what it is like on base before we look off base? Also do you know if there is a long wait for housing? Any advice would be great! Thanks

Hi, the housing office will offer you lords walk and feltwell housing and liberty village (All base housing). I personally did not like lords walk and feltwell, nobody wants to live in lords walk! Liberty Village is on lakenheath and they are nice houses. At the time liberty village was all occupied (2010). As far as the wait currently, on those houses I'm not sure. I live in West Row which is less than 5 minutes from Mildenhall's back gate. I suggest looking at Rightmove.co.uk and using IP28 for the postcode (thats the mildenhall area) if you want to see available housing off base. I heard Ely is nice but it can be 30+ minutes to base. I've heard Brandon has nice houses but has alot of theft. I hope I've helped a little. Good Luck

Oh yeah one other thing. The closer you are to base, the prices for rent will be inflated due to the owners know what the military pays us for housing. The further out you go from base you can get a better house for cheaper. Also, if you and your husband like to enjoy the night life, living closer to Bury St. Edmunds, Cambridge, and Newmarket is ideal. Cab rides get pretty pricey from Cambridge, Bury, and Newmarket to the base areas. Those towns are all 20-30 minutes from the base area.
