I am PCS'ing to England in Nov from Germany. Has anybody else had to get visa's for their family while they were stationed in Germany. We are all US citizens. I went by the passport office on Ramstein and they said they dont deal with visas. Anybody have some good info?
Thanks.

Amazing that they didn't give you more info! No, they don't do the visas, if you were stationed in Spang you will have to drive to Dusseldorf to hand in your paperwork. Being from Ram, I don't know where you have to go to get them. You can fill the application out online and use your GTC to pay for it, just make sure you get the OK to do so beforehand. You will also need 1 euro when you take the application there so that they will call you when they are ready. You will have to drive quite a ways I'm sure either way and the military will not pay you to do so, so make sure you have EVERYTHING you need! Including people! Everyone has to go. The visas will go into your no fee passports as well. Even if you get 4 years here, you only get the visas for 3 for some odd reason. Go back in there and get more info! It's silly they didn't give you more to begin with!

You can also do a partial dity move and drive yourself to England as well, in case you didn't know that. We did it and it was something I would do again!

We just got our visa's after we moved here. You're allowed to be here for up to six months w/o one, and once here the base will help you get it.

When we went through the boarder patrol at the airport, we just showed them a copy of our orders w/ everyones names on them and they let up through.

I talked to the passport office in England about that, and they said they are going to make people go back to the states if they show up without a visa.

I did not know that. We do plan to drive to next base in England. Thanks for the tip. What is a partial dity move?

You can move some of your household goods yourself. You would have to get everything weighed (there is a weigh station off base if the one on base doesn't work) but you'll be paid for moving it. A DITY move stateside is moving everything yourself from one base to the next, so this would only be a partial DITY move. We had a trailer that we packed full and took with us. If you don't have a trailer, you can always use your car but you will get paid anyway for driving yourselves.
