My husband has his own gardening business (it's ok I'm not advertising on here!) and we always put our adverts in the Business and Services category which means we pay the princely (?) sum of $3 for each advert which we feel is extremely good value for money!! But it really annoys me to see the amount of businesses, mainly cleaning companies and auto dealers who use every category except the ones you pay for!!! Heck i mean how can you think that FREE is the correct category to advertise your service in!!! I flag them up but they just put more on, this is sooo unfair on Bookoo, they should pay for their advertising!! And by putting their adverts in the 'Jobs' category surely they are just raising peoples hopes by thinking there could be a job there. If you feel the same way please flag 'em up with me!! Now about my husbands business..............lol!!!
Yea man, I don't think there's enough regulation where that's concerned. But at the same time I kinda feel like it's still a small classifieds ad site. There's gonna be abuse like that. if they got bigger, it would be good if they had more regulations in place.
In the meantime i think most people do like you do...flag and/or ignore that company and go to more legitimate ones. At least for me, if it looks shiesty, it's gotta be shiesty. :)
If you take a look at this Bookoo site Buisness sellers get listed on the front page where they should be.Adam and Austin want their cake and eat it with lakenheath Bookoo charge for buisness listing and get no extra benefit. You can flag till the pigs stop flying it wont make any difference untill the site is changed.
Thanks for that I will mention that Bookoo site in my next email of complaint that I send to Austin and Adam, not that my emails do any good!! I must admit most people must feel the same as you O.o as a lot of people chose my husband to do their garden!! I guess they trust someone who just does gardening and doesn't offer to also haul their trash, clean and decorate their house, walk their dog, etc, etc!! It's true what they say 'Jack of all trades and Master of none!!!
Which one is your husband? Is that a trick question? i don't want to get in trouble for advertising on here! Lol!! Seriously though he is 'Head Gardener'.
No trick, just curious, and turns out he's the guy who came and took care of my backyard jungle when I got back from my deployment. In any case, I'm pretty sure we've met - I think you were in the car with your grandson when he came by.
A long, long time ago we discussed that auction place & their practice of inundatiing the site with ads. It doesn't do any good- they don't listen to complaints & Admins don't monitor the site. I wish the base would go back to the Family Portal way of selling- or let us advertise in the Post Office or commissary. PCS time is stressful enough without having to weed through car dealers & auction places to unload some stuff.
^ Like. I really dislike the auction place as the weekend draws near. Pages of stuff you can't buy directly from them. I heard the way it works is you go in on a Friday then go back on Saturday and bid. Either way, you can't buy any of their stuff on LYS. What's the point? My wife's birthday is coming and I figure a new antique would be a great gift so I've been looking for a few weeks and have noticed this. I'll just spend the extra money at a regular shop.
so let me get this straight they advertise all this stuff but you cant buy any of it unless you bid-HELLO ADMINS if this is right then they should be paying to advertise their business
so let me get this straight they advertise all this stuff but you cant buy any of it unless you bid-HELLO ADMINS if this is right then they should be paying to advertise their business They certainly should pay, not sure if they do or not i tend to ignore their adverts as they never really tell you exactly what is for sale and I sure as hell don't have a whole saturday to spare sitting in their draughty barn!!!!!! Email your concerns directly to info@bookoo.com. They should be able to address your concerns.
believe me Kara I have done this several times both as myself and as my husbands business! I've even offered to contact the offending businesses on their behalf, lol!! Adam, Austin or Amy always say that they are dealing with it and to keep flagging items up, but nothing seems to change and I really don't have time to police the site myself!!!!

If she's into sewing I have an antique (think it can be called 'antique' as it is over 50 years old) singer electric sewing machine for sale, it's one of the pretty black and gold ones. Adverts on Bookoo just in case. Have you tried Risby Barn at Risby they have tons of antiques there, I love just wandering round their two shops seeing how many things are there from my childhood (damn I'm old!!) Other places a bit further afield are Downham market and Aldeburgh (by the seaside)these towns both have a lot of antique shops, Aldeburgh also has the best fish and chip shop!!!
Either way, you can't buy any of their stuff on LYS.
Truth is you can't buy anything from that site except a membership or sticker.
The site is made up of advertisements for things that are available to be purchased, and the items for auction fall into that category. It's really no different than saying "Here's this item I pulled out of my garage - the best offer gets it." But yeah, they should pay.
What also makes me laugh is the photos that some of the businesses put on their adverts are pics taken straight from magazines and don't portray the actual work they do!! I only ever put photos of actual work my hubby has done!! I've seen some other gardening service providers use photos they've obviously taken out of 'Homes & Gardens' or 'Country Life'!!!! Why? I know what a garden looks like so unless it's work you've done then don't bother, eh!!!!
When I first got here, LYS was blowing up! Everyone was on it and it was the only place to buy and sale.
But this past year I haven't even checked it. I used to post my bushiness, but now I use the FB pages (Business and Wanted) for EVERYTHING! We PCS in 50 days and I've gotten more hits on FB than I ever did on here.
Plus, its free, you can SEE who is selling what and its regulated. Sometimes too extreme but its that or nothing!

I'm just signed up. I don't pay any membership fees. How else does one buy something off the internet without being signed up first at the website? Unless I'm missing your point.
As per the other comment, there is a difference between what this site is about and what the auction place is doing. This site is about contacting the seller directly online, deciding on a price and setting up a time to come pick it up for have it delivered. The auction site is showing items they have for sale and there is a low percentage of you ever getting said item even IF you were to show up on the ONE day they are open for actual business. You can not discuss a price with them online, they just tell you what days you are allowed to come in and they don't follow the rules of the website they are using to cater to themselves. They aren't actually selling anything on the site, it's just ads for their business.

So how do you sell stuff on FB? Did you create your own local FB page?
Meanie, what I meant was this is a classified site. Bookoo doesn't really sell anything except memberships. The selling is all done by their members, offline, as opposed to someplace like Amazon, where you give them money through the site and they ship the item.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on the second point based on my personal experiences buying from folks here. I regularly attend the auction, and my chances of walking out with what I want, as long as I have the money to buy it, are very high. Here, on the other hand, I've had items sold out from underneath me several times. At least at the auction I have the chance to counter the other person's offer if I choose. As for a low percentage of getting the item, I'm guessing you've never gone to the auction, because a lot of the items there don't sell at all. I could be wrong about you having never been, but I have a 100% success rate for walking out with what I went to get. You can't discuss a price with them online because there is no set price, but many of the ads here are firm and you can't discuss it with them, either. As for them being open one day, that's actually a good thing if you find something you really want, because no matter if you're the first person to see it or the hundredth, you have just as good of a shot at getting it as the next guy. Here, you better hope you're the first, 'cause things go quick. As for them not following the rules of the site, bad on them, but bad on a lot of people who don't follow the rules. And finally, again, no one is selling things on this site - every post is an ad for an item, or, if you want to look at it technically, a business transaction. The auction house places ads here for items coming up in that week's auction, so while they are advertising a business, they're also advertising an item you can buy from them, just like everyone else.
