So, a while ago I read a comment on here about how 'England has slow internet' and I thought 'pah! how stupid' as im from here and I have never had any issue with the speed of internet. I recently moved from just south of Cambridge to here in Beck Row and GEEEZ it has the slowest internet EVER! My husband is in Korea right now, but when he gets back he is not going to happy lol. At least it will mean he has to stop playing online games as they will take 7 years to load! Anyone else in Beck Row or close have crazy slow internet? Maybe it's cause we are in the fens?! I promise it's not the whole of England!

We lived in Beck Row for over a year, we lived on Holmsey Green. Our Internet was TERRIBLE! We live on Lakenheath now and love our Internet, yes our Internet in Beck Row was torture.

I called BT this morning to tell them what a joke it was that if I want to watch a 2 minute YouTube video I have to go and busy myself with something else for 10minutes while it loads. They told me it was due to our 'geographical area'. Argh!

Welcome to our moan Sophie ;-)
I finally have great internet now, but it took me five years to move to a place where it was good.

I'll have to just save up all my YouTube watching for when I visit my mum. Our download speed is 0.3mb hahahaha....so sad.

ours sucks here in lakenheath... on base. it is always going out, at least once a day sometimes more. We have called BT and they have said its because of how the lines were put in, the weather, the modem (we've had 6 replacements in just under 4 yrs of being here) blah blah blah... I tell them its plain and simple: IT SUCKS!! lol

We used to live in Burwell (Out by Newmarket) and never had a problem with out internet. Then we also moved to Beck Row and it is like beating your head against the wall to get ANYTHING to load. I haven't even touched Youtube since moving out here because it I will probably smash the router!

I don't understand why its so bad!

Our router goes out like clockwork about once every 3-4 months. Then I have to go upstairs and reset it. It's a PITA.

Sometimes on eBay I can't get ANY of the pics to load. I have to reload the browser multiple times then they finally show up. It's usually decent for speed....if you consider 3 MBPS "decent" (which I don't. I consider that RUBBISH!) but it at least works sort of. We had 10 MBPS when we were in Ga! That was "normal" speed too.

When we get to NJ we are going to look into the Verizon FiOS 25/25MBPS internet plan. It is $75 a month....they even have one that is 150 Megabytes per Second! Holy crap! 25MBPS is fine by me though...way faster than 3.

It got up to 1mb yesterday - woooohooo!! Im obsessed with 'internet speed tests' now! My husband (in Osan) has a download speed of 9.5mb right now...0.34mb will come as a bit of a shock...- stupid Beck Row!

20 minutes from Norwich and apparently just a house or two from the exchange :-)

sophie333 --- 13 years ago -

Just tested my mum's internet today and it was a download speed of 6.9mb (she lives near Cambridge) thats a vast improvement on the s*!t of Beck Row's 0.3mb Ugh!

Oh man, have internet will travel, huh? :) We might move soon but were hoping for some place closer to base if we did.

Okay, I thought we had it bad at less than 1Mb. Ouch!

i have 2.3mb - 2.5MB in beck row.
BUT i pay a premium business broadband which means i get higher priority over all residential BBand at all times of the day/evening/peak period or not. my share ratio is 20:1, residential is 50:1
ratio is users per server connection.

why does beck row have crap speed?
its to do with how far we are from the mildenhall exchange, the further away, the slower it gets & there is NOTHING you or your ISP can do about it.only BT who owns the exchanges can improve the exchange.. which i hear is happening next year some time..

sophie333 --- 13 years ago -

wow, may I ask how much you pay for premium business broadband? Id seriously be willing to pay double if it upped our speed!

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

We have BT, in Brandon. We have fast, reliable Internet. Luckily we have never had a problem!

LeopardPagan --- 13 years ago -

i pay £23 a month for broadband ONLY. through talk talk business, it is cheaper if you have phone/tv package but i do not need or want their phones.

all this means is that you will get the full speed that your line can handle & keep that speed constant at any time of day/night. which in Beck Row is STILL poor. so do not expect 5+ MB speeds!
