Yeah.....that is pretty lame too. No more awesome cupcakes and Mocha Chillatta for anyone. I hear they are getting a Starbucks instead.

Aren't they building a new BX?

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

Aren't they building a new BX?

Yeah, that is what I hear. It is supposed to be over by the fenced in place where they tore down the old housing.

I heard they are supposed to be consolidating as much as possible into it....might make the furniture store and some of the BXtra obsolete.

My source? My wife. She is at work with people that talk about the goings on around here nonstop. She works with a majority of Officers and they, of course, speak to other Officers of even higher ranks. I'm pretty certain at least a decent amount of the info that trickles down to the enlisted in her shop is fairly valid.

If it is all true....well then that will be great for the people that will get to use this new BX. Figures they'd plan to build new, cooler stuff when we are about to leave! Roughly 90 days left for us! YAY!!!! YAY!!!!

They have been talking about the New BX since 2006.

They also said they are putting the Commissary in the BX (they did that at Hill, amazing).

But you know the military way, lets hurry up and wait!

It took Hill 5 years to build a Popeyes. Nothing is every quick.

We leave in May, and I joke that is when they will break ground!

Dawnmom25 --- 13 years ago -

We left Guam a month before their new Beautiful BX opened. I was very annoyed. They built theirs pretty quick though, less than a year. I live right by where they are going to build it here. I have 2.5 years left, I hope I am here to enjoy it!

That would be kinda weird. A Commissary in the BX? No! It's too convenient! The Military + Convenience = Fail! They'd find a way to ruin it.

Lol, soooooo true!

wifey (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

I heard the new bx place is meant to be done by 2012 and someone else said more recently 2014....we shall see! We are here til 2014 so we might see it complete lol

MrsAmy --- 13 years ago -

Sorry I should clarify.

The commissary in the old bx building. Not actually IN the BX.

Wow, what would the point of that be? Spend money to move the DECA out of a building that is already a Grocery store....then move it into a building that will need to be converted into one? That idea is pure gold.

They would be better off leaving DECA where it is....then moving the furniture store from RAFF into the old RAFL BX instead. Less to do.

Think about it...if they move the DECA into the BX then they have to add walk-in coolers, expand the warehouse section for the massive amounts of food they get in, tear up the floor (some of the BX is carpeted), then of course do something with all the empty places out in the food court area. It sounds like the construction would be a total mess.

With moving the furniture store to RAFLs BX all they'd have to do really is remodel slightly (if they felt like it) then simply move the products/computer systems (specific for that store) into the new building.

The benefit of having the furniture store moved to RAFL is people won't buy a new couch that comes with a complimentary bird dropping on it. I always get grossed out when going there! Eww!

Any way it gets looked at it's going to cost a ton of money. That money could be put to better use. Lord's Walk sure could use a complete overhaul. I'll bet that would be a welcomed change.

I would imagine people would rather live in a nicer home than have a nicer BX to spend money at. But I digress!
