Does anyone know anything about what's been going on in Beck Row? There have been all of these car break ins and someone even got their tires slashed! So I'm trying to move and I was wondering what's the safest places to live in the area as in low crime rate. Thanks!

Southern Belle --- 13 years ago -

That sounds awful! I live in Mildenhall and we have the occasional crime of opportunity but nothing major. I'm not sure about other places.

*Disclaimer* This was said by my British friends, not me :) My British friends always say that "the closer you are to base the scuzzier the people."

If you go here Crime Maps you can type in a city or post code. Then just click on the crime map tab. Then you can see what's been reported in the last month.

I hope this helps and that everything works out for you!

"the closer you are to base the scuzzier the people."

That's true anywhere. We learned that early in our AF career.

The further out you go, the more open the people are too you as well. My children were surrounded by people who wanted them to say things so that they could hear their American accents. AND we have left our doors unlocked by accident more times than I can remember but we've never had any problems.

You trade off by losing the Husband time to commuting time though :-(

Where at in Beck Row? I live in Beck Row and haven't seen any of this or heard of it. But then again where I live is in the back and it looks "gated".

Though that new housing area they are building is going to turn it upside down.

And Jeni, Amen!

We used to live a good 20-30 minute drive from base for two years. We finally moved closer because the drive was driving both of us insane! I don't know why people will ONLY go 45 MPH no matter what the speed limit REALLY is (when its 60 or 30).

Sorry, didn't mean to go off subject, but AHH.

It was VERY safe where we lived, heck we never fully locked up (no one could find our house when they were looking for it lol). But you go the next village over and its nothing but car break ins and they even started setting cars on fire (out by Newmarket).

Also, are the cars broken into or where they unlocked??

I know TONS of people here that go "Oh my car got broke into!" but it was unlock, all they did was open your door!

I also know people (around here it tends to be Americans) that leave their Sat Navs out, ipods out, Military apparel in their cars, and even money sitting in plain view.

There is no safe place here to move to

This is my cousin. To the "T". He is in the Army, and so far has had his GPS and two iPods stolen (one was an older Nano, and the latest was a Touch).

He even had some DoDDs kids steal freakin' Birthday cards out of his mail box, he knew this because they opened the cards and stole the money.....then left the card. It was for his little boy. Shame.

Rabbit, there IS a safe place to move to when the country has the right to bear arms.

I live in Lakenheath Village and we have had no problems on my street in the last 2 1/2 years I have lived here. Unfortunately, I have heard that criminals target American cars. I have even come home to find my door wide open because it was not shut properly and nothing had been taken. I leave stuff all the time in my car and my husband has a fit. But fortunately I have had no problems. I just wouldn't move to some parts of Brandon or Thetford. If there is a lot of Americans in an area they tend to be targeted. Sorry to hear you are having a bad experience.
