So our landlord had an inspection yesterday and we tried to reschedule first time reschedule because we have been too busy to get the house to his standard. He told us all along how to live in his home. Since we tried to reschedule he called housing who called work who all came to the house after he already has raised the rent 3 times in 2 1/2 years. Started up below cap now way above cap. So don't do it DO NOT RENT 99 Falcon Way!!!!!

I appreciate when people warn others so they can avoid shady people. Make sure you post on LYS also.

I think everyone likes a warning. However I always take alot of what is said on here with a HUGE pinch of salt, especially as I know for a fact a lot of things that have been said on here are total rubbish.

Also, if you want to avoid rent increases then you should have had it written into your contract. If you didn't do that, then your landlord is well within his rights to put the rent to whatever he likes.

yes but not in his rights to tell me how to live in my house. such as not letting my kid write with wash able chalk on a fence because the fence would need repainting. calling the fire department to accuse us of disabling fire alarms because a piece of tape to hold a balloon up from a party was on the ceiling 6 inches from the fire alarm. The british landlords should be happy with their over priced rent and not having to pay council tax. If you are a landlord and get paid every month without fail and there is no obstruction to the property then let people live. Also if you need to fix a broken toilet downstairs why do you need to go through every room? should it be okay for a landlord to contact an employer to force an inspection? Outrageous if you ask me!

also raising rent every contract knowing what a pain to move is, is a little bit of taking advantage. No holes on the walls, no use of the water heater closet or attic? When something breaks like the heat it is the tennants immediate fault. If you call an electricion because you have no electric and the landlord is unreachable he won't cover the bill because he didn't get to make sure the electricity was actually broken. NOT a good landlord.

His name is MR. G Peters I think he only rents the falcon way house. He still lives at home with his parents and is in his 50s. He is petty, pathetic and abuses his landlord authority. Don't do it you all have been warned!

It's not your house, you don't own it. If some of the scenarios you listed on here actually happened then I feel bad for you. However, in situations like this I'm sure if your Landlord came on here, he would have a totally different take on things!

Unfortunately (for you), it is within your Landlords right to increase the rent at the end of every contract. However, you have the right to choose, or not,to sign another contract and carry on living in his house. It is very unusual for anything in life to decrease in price!

Which is a bigger pain: moving or putting up with the landlord's ways?

Thats what we are questioning too. We cant stand our landlord but do we want the hassle of moving & possibly getting another crappy landlord. We like our house & the small, friendly estate it is on....hmmmm

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

We are in the opposite situation. We need a little bit bigger house, but we love our area and our neighbors. Our landlord is in the US so we never deal with her directly. We are afraid to move and end up with crappy neighbors and a crappy landlord. So far we haven't seen a house that is worth the risk.

I guess we got lucky. Our landlord is fantastic and our house is huge. I look at it as a reward for living in Lord's Walk for two years lol. The downfall is we live 30 mins from base(with teenagers) and we are in the middle of farm country (HUGE flies and spiders and all manner of critters in our garden lol) I really do think the farther away from base you get the better.

Yes I agree the rent is allowed to go up and yes it was more of a hassle to move. It would have been nice to know that the landlord would raise it above cap with just two years of living here and it being below cap when we moved it. Its not easy nor cheap to move in England and the pain of it taking weeks for internet coming back on. At that time being a full time student it wasn't an option. Now I've graduated it is!

Your landlord should not be able to contact housing to contact your first sgt to cause a stink because you want to reschedule a quarterly inspection that happens every 3 months but as we know if you make an appt 3 months out stuff may come up to need to reschedule. If we weren't military the landlord could call the employer and the employer wouldn't care. In my eyes if you are getting rent every month and know without at doubt you will get it and nothing is damaged way get in peoples ways and find reasons to come over once a month?

Since we are moving out due to misuse of authority and now it may be the landlords property but not his house once he decides to rent it out. It is an investment property not his home. Even if it was once his home its not anymore. Anyway we don't want anyone else to feel a prisoner in there own home. Or to feel constantly violated or mistreated by an anal OCD English landlord who is getting way to much for housing and doesn't have to pay council tax. OH and you can have pets or other people in your house for an extended period of time.
