MOPS is great, although there is only 2 more meetings before end of season, its a start to meet new moms. It meets every other Thursday at the Mildenhall Chapel 10-11:30. https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/mildenhall.mops
Thanks to all. Is MOPS something like liberty tots? i went to the liberty tots easter egg hunt last friday and i felt like such an outsider. it was like the first day of school all over again.
No it's not, and I know exactly how you feel! I've went to one as well and never went back because no one talked or welcomed me or anything, it was very awkawrad. In MOPS mothers go to a room with food and kids go in another room according to age with volunteers who watch them. The moms all sit at tables and eat and chat and we sometimes have guest speakers and crafts, it's nice :)
ohhh ok. that's exactly what happened to me friday and... i came home and cried. it doesnt help im pregnant and hormones are outta wack but it wasnt quite what i expected. this is my first time being away from my home town. everyone i talked to that has lived overseas said "oh you're air force family is going to be your second family, it's great, and your gonna make life long friends" etc. Needless to say I was quite surprised when i got there felt like the nerdy new kid by the time I left.
Have you found a house yet? yes we live about 5 mins from base. im turning into a home body too. if it werent for facebook and skype i'd be in bad shape. at least i can stay connected to my family thru them
We live in Beck zrow. Try to to get out, especially when it is sunny. We have little things we like doing. Library, playgrounds, day trips on the weekend. Lots of kid friendly days out around the area. We have a big backyard so the kids can run around outside.
Sunny days are luxuries here arent they? We are in the lakenheath village on the corner of two roads and well not much of a back or front yard (at least not what i was used to.) We take walks around the block on sunny days but that's about it. On weekends when my husband is off we try to do a little something like go to a zoo.
There's the Bob Hope on Mildenhall, like a mini-indoor play ground. There's skating and bowling on Lakenheath. Also Weds at the HAWC (in the gym) there is a mommy group, I've never been but heard it's nice, I jsut never find the time on Wednesday's. How old are your little ones? I have a 1 year old and my daughter will be 3 next week :) We live off base about 15 min away. Oh and there is Jumping Jacks in Mildenhall which is a nice indoor play area.
Jumping jacks is great. We went on Tuesday. Mildenhall town also has a nice playground near the Sainsbury's. There is also ducks to feed near there along the river. Very nice walk.
My daughter turned 18 months old today. I'm pregnant and expecting a boy early Sept. I'm still trying to get our house unpacked so I give that partial credit to staying home but I'm starting to get a little stir crazy. I actually look forward to going to the commissary just to get out of the house LOL.
Welcome! I seen on another thread you are from the Moody AFB area! That was our last base....we miss it sooo much. Things for toddlers to do? Hmmm, well the Bob Hope center isn't too bad. I like the coffee place there.
EW, the playground on the corner of the High Street and Undley Rd. probably isn't what your looking for, is it? I don't have kids, nor will I any time soon, but a friend of mine with two little ones takes them there a lot.
Do you drive? I love all the idea's on here about jumppin jacks and places. There is a British playgroup at Barton Mills monday and wednesday morning from 10am till 11.30am. Cost was 1.50 when I used to go but that included tea/coffee and biscuits for adults and juice and snack for the children, all activities and then left over money went towards day trips out. Im sure Lakenheath has a playgroup aswell somewhere. You and your husband might want to invest in a year season pass for Banham zoo (the other side of thetford) you wont have to pay for either of the children as they are under 3. you can go whenever you want then with or without him even if its just for a few hours for a picnic and to get out of the house. And your 18 month old can play on the park and look at the animals. (I have just got the season pass for all 3 parks but I dont think you would benefit that) The parks are both bases are nice outside but sometimes you need to get off there so it feels like you have been somewhere. Thats all i can think of for now but if anything else pops into my head i will come back and let you know. Dawnmum25....Im in Beck Row aswell. Do you take your little one to the park or anything?
I seen on another thread you are from the Moody AFB area!
Yeah I was born and raised in Adel. You probably remember it from the annoying Cook County Ford commercials "That's Adel Baby." My husband got stationed there in June 07 (we met in 08)and we left this past Feb. England compared to GA is a HUGE culture shock, still trying to get used to it. Everything is SOOO CROWDED and narrow (not to mention the weather is cold and dreary most of the time.) SSDD When were you at moody? My husband recognizes a few faces here but he's been several different places.
Where in LV did you get your house? We live in what used to be base housing (i guess they sold it to private landlords later on.) We are right off of B1112 (i think thats right.) it's the first subdivision before you get into the village part of lakenheath. Playground on the corner of high street?? Is that the one thats across from the sandwich shop. It's on the same rd as the tattoo parlor and church and pretty much all the restaurants? I'm not great with road names yet.
Tigger we LOVED Banham Zoo. We liked it much better than Paradise Island or whatever it's called. I do drive but I refuse to go anywhere of great distance without my husband. I drove the car to New Market one day (I had the satnav) and he followed me on his motorcycle to get him some garage to get his MOT done. Oh my goodness that was HORRIBLE!!! I cant get used to parking on the streets. I turned down the wrong road b/c there was 2 rds close together (thinking it was the right rd). I couldnt see if there was anything coming in the other lane because all the cars were parked in my lane (we have a US Spec car.) That was rough. I was on the verge of tears cause I hated pullin out in traffic and i couldnt see. My husband had gotten caught at the 5 ways roundabout so he wasnt behind me to say (go or stop)
Dawnmum25, One reason i chose to live back in Beck Row, being able to walk to the base (or stagger home from a pub...lol..) The car has been in the garage a few times this last month and i can just walk home. Kid has practise and games, we can walk. Maybe we could meet up sometime?
Just keep pracising, please dont do what alot of woman do here and spend you life in the house or on base as they are too scared to drive, it will be a long and lonely tour if you do. Don't park on streets but use carparks, there are 2 or more in Newmarket and plenty in Bury. Cambridge has a park and ride where you park your car in a carpark and ride the bus into town. I drive a us spec aswell but its ok, just dont overtake.
Hi! I have a newly one year old and I'm pregnant too and due the first week of october. We should get together! I live in mildenhall, I don't drive but i walk all over town. Like today I'm walking to jumping jacks.
thanks to all for the advice :) gonna try my hardest to make the best of it. how many ppl can say i lived in England and saw blah blah blah and ate blah blah. thanks guys
I have a four year old, and I'm also due in October!
We are looking at moving to Mildenhall village, we have lived here for two years already and our lease is coming up.
There is so much to do around here, I love it. I usually take my daughter to the parks, Bob Hope when its nasty out. I was told of some place out by Cambridge but I can't remember the name of it to save my life right now.
Though my daughter's favorite thing to do in England, Bootsales! haha
