Has anyone gone to the US Embassy in London to apply for their tourist passport instead of going on base.. If so, exactly how long did it take to receive your passport? The website says the processing time is 15 days, but does that include it being mailed back to you or just processed in the states? Any help from someone who has personally gotten their tourist passport this way would be greatly appreciated!

This won't answer your question, but when my wife and I filed for our tourist passports on base, and it asked for a place and date when we intended to use them, we put France two weeks from the day we turned in the application, and believe it or not we had them in time to go.

I'm not saying this is the way it'll work for everyone, but it did for us.

I doubt that'll work. She goes like once a month at the end or start of the month. It's timing.

yep its all about timing, cause they go out once a month so if u go the day before theyr do to go, well thell be here faster for u than for those who went the day after. If, like happened to a friend, u are to travel in an emergency u can go and its the same day but its only a temporary one so ull have to renew it soon, if this is not ur case, save ur $$ and gas by going to london and stick to base office.

Went to the Embassy for my daughters. We had her passport back in exactly one wk. It came to the base, but I had to meet the courier at the gate, since he did not have access to base. But I didn't mind since it only took 7 days to get processed and returned to me..

I have heard it is very quick and would recomend going to the Embassy. We decided to take our chances and apply for our daughters on base March 23 and it still isn't back and they said they are still waiting for Jan! It might be taking longer due to it isn't a new birth but if you need it quick go to the embassy. We might have to cancel our trip to Brugge at the end of the month.

The embassy is for emergencies only, a lady was saying they are getting a lot of people from base going there to just get passports sooner and they are going to let base know about this. But it can't hurt to try I guess.

I know I'm a little late responding but when I went to the base office they actually gave me all the Embassy info and told me it was faster to go through them. I mailed everything to the Embassy and got my passport back in about 2.5 weeks. It was so easy!

Thanks for the info..Just incase anyone needs the info in the future, my husband went and got his passport processed there and got his passport in the mail in 8 days! And they were really nice, so I would definitely recommend that instead of going on base!

I think it's a matter of timing and being really really REALLY sweet to the lady who works in the office.

Hubby applied on base for his first passport for a trip we chanced upon last minute. The application was processed and we had our passports back to us in just over a week.
