I know I have seen threads about this, but I just need current accurate info. We are having a baby in September, and since most of my husband's family is also military, we are asking for AAFES gift cards. We are doing this mostly for convienence since our baby shower is in the states and we are having the baby here.
Many of the things that we want to order for the nursery, such as a crib and glider are on aafes.com/ shopmyexchange.com. The problem is when in the shipping details it states it can only ship to stateside adresses.
Other than using sites like shipitapo.com and the likes, what can we do to get larger items to us without needing to rely on paying too much in the british stores. We have looked at the limited options in the BX, and we were not impressed with the selection, also another reason why we are trying to go the online route.

70 lbs and 130" in length + girth Space-A (2 months), 109" for Priority (2 weeks).

I sent a larger furnature item to my family and had them break it down to smaller boxes and reship. That's an option, but lots of ground work. Also you could take down the item number you want online and go to the furniture store to order. But order now as they tend to take 2 or 3 months to get here. Also you could try to see if the retailers off base participate in VAT program that we have on base, 20% off listed prices.

You could always guilt your gifters into buying the item in store and shipping the item? Letting them deal with the Post Office in the states for shipping?

Not sure if they do this anymore but AAFES/the BXtra used to accept shipment of oversize items on behalf of customers. They use the Mildenhall BXtra address then call you when it arrives (could be slow though). We did this a couple years ago, but not sure if it is still an option or whether you'll find the person that knows how to do it. Find a retiree that looks like they've been around for a while :)

I don't know, you could always go to the Customer Service peps and ask there. But chances of getting a blank stare are significant.
