what wrong with lords walk please

Nicole --- 14 years ago -

There's nothing wrong with it..just ghetto. And there are quite a bit of thefts going on it seems. And its loud..

But the houses are in functioning order and serve a purpose... :)

Kdude --- 14 years ago -

Thieves, houses have no ventilation, and floor plans are terrible. Just to name a few. Turned that place down on two separate occasions, either wait it out for Liberty Village or move out to Feltwell (new houses and the old ones are nice and big). Lord-Walked-By is so bad because places like Liberty Village and Feltwell are so nice.

nelly --- 14 years ago -

Idk about it being ghetto. It may look ghetto bc its goverment housing. But I live in lordswalk and where im from, this is nowhere near ghetto.

Nicole --- 14 years ago -

By ghetto, I meant a lot of people let their property over grow/ leave trash laying outside, etc. Not everyone does but the people that do ruin it for others. I've lived in places a lot more ghetto as well. At the last base, people actually stole flowers out of the flowerbeds.

The main thing that bothered us was it felt depressing there. And the noise was a factor as well.

nelly --- 14 years ago -

Oh okay I see where youre coming from and that is understandable, i hate when people leave their trash cans out for like 2 weeks straight, im just like, really.. Its actually pretty quiet in my area, I guess i got lucky.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yeah, I went to deliver a computer desk a couple years back to a guy in Lords Walk. Wow....it looked like the projects. He wasn't PCSing either. It wasn't just him, other houses had crap all over the place. Dog crap on the sidewalk (I nearly stepped in it!), really high grass....garbage all over the place. There were also old rusty bicycles laying around and toys in the road. (He lived in a Cul-de-sac)

I never witnessed anything as ghetto since leaving the South (Georgia). Yeah, AVOID Lords Walk. They should either tear them all down and build new houses there or dump lots of money in awesome remodeling.

And for God's sake put a dang guard shack at the entrance for Lords Walk like the one at the CDC in Mildenhall. Why the heck they ever decided it would be a good idea to open it to the public is beyond me. Such a security risk.

Liberty Village on the other hand is great. Once you've lived in Liberty Village then visit someone that lives in Lords Walk you'll immediately "see" why people say it's ghetto in LW.

part of it all --- 14 years ago -

We were offered a house there and it was the worst place I had ever even considered for a home. My children were uncomfortable during the house tour. The carpet was nasty. The floor plan was terrible. As for ghetto --- It looks like "the projects" in the States. There was nothing about the neighborhood that screamed "Hey, This might not be so bad. I could see myself living here.".

Lords Walk offers shelter for you and your belongings. It is close to the Base (but not protected by the security of the base). You may find it less expensive to live there instead of off base. These things did not even come close to being enough for my family to choose to live there.

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

Housing really pushes Lords Walk. We said NO WAY! The people at housing act like LW isn't so bad. Bet none of them would live in it.

Kathalina --- 14 years ago -

I live in Lords Walk, its not an ideal home but, its temp. I have a fenced back yard and a HUGE double shed. I talked with housing 2 days ago, they are in the process of giving these houses back to the British. the lease is up or coming up.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Housing really pushes Lords Walk.

Yeah they do. They started to offer it to my wife and she kindly interrupted with a "No Thank You". We were on the list for Liberty Village for nearly two years for a two bedroom. In the end we lucked out and got a 3 bedroom immediately after it was confirmed my wife was prego. It's a great place to live! Soooooo much more comfy than off base (for us that is!). The sound of the jets doesn't bother us at all. In fact I personally LIKE it.

It gives it that authentic military "feel" which I miss so much (Prior serviceman).

I talked with housing 2 days ago, they are in the process of giving these houses back to the British.

I had heard this too. The wife & I talked about this happening last year....wonder what the hold up is? That will be strange, are they going to eventually end up an empty neighborhood behind the base? Or, are they going to be full of British people? There is alot that is odd about this assignment. Like for instance that privately owned British home ON RAFM....or Mickey's Diner for that matter. It all goes back to what I was saying in another thread. The layout changes so much here by the time we leave it'll be so much different than when we arrived!

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

Hey SSDD,
How big is your LV house? Do you have separate dining room or family room? Do you have a garage. We will be living there eventually, 4 bedroom hopefully.

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

As for LW being given to the British, good riddance! We should all throw a farewell party for LW in the housing office parking lot if it happens.

BentBackTulips --- 14 years ago -

They were "giving LW back" in 07 when we got here.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Our Dining room is separated by a "bar" in the kitchen. Our Livingroom is it's own room entirely. Our garage is not attached to the house. It is pretty big too....well HUGE compared to a standard British "Lawn Mower sized garage".

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

I am glad we lived off base for the first year and a half to wait for LV. I love it...granted alot of kids run a muck but not that big of a deal. My son walks home from school, my daughter has a playground right behind our house...there is a trail we take the dogs and kids for walks on...I like it - worth the wait!

Rabbit --- 14 years ago -

LW no one wants to partol british or military they both toss it back and forth. We have had major items stolen and neither side did anything. When we took it it was on base and then changed. Had I known the change was coming I would have not taken it. they are small and suck. Some houses come with backyards others dont. I am not paying for a fence to be put up with no reinbursment. I warn everyone I can not to take these. As far as giving them back to the british they said that in 07 and money came through to keep them. It won't happen.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

LV is NOT all that. Most people that live there use their garage for storage and park their second car on the narrow road. Which they're not supposed to do.

There is NO guest parking. It's like - here, have a house but you can't have any friends over. I've had to park my own car at the youth center in order to have a friend come over. Oh, we're one of the few who actually have a car in the garage - along with a bunch of other stuff...

The walls suck. It's not dry wall - it's like plaster of paris - you nail something in and 1/2 the wall comes apart.

The door stops fall off, cracks in the walls, our boiler has had a problem since day one - 12 times they've come to fix it. It STILL goes out. Totally sucks when you're taking a shower.

My neighbor had the carpet on the stairs come out from under her and she sprained her tail bone.

The moulding the bathroom fell down out of no where.

Honestly - one of the many guys that came to fix my kitchen light (which three are currently out - I usually wait for 4 to go out before I call or I'd be calling them every week) Anyway - he said he wouldn't give 10 pence for these houses for the way they're slapped together and I agree.

The guy who designed the roads with the way some houses are not seen from the road must have been on crack. There was a fire in our little inlet and darned if the fire truck didn't pass us by leaving the fire longer. Not to mention the lawn they had to drive through because of all the parked cars on the double yellow lines.

The grass isn't always greener...

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Julie, I have two cars in my LV garage. We park our other car out front. What pi$$es me off is occasionally someone not from around here parks there car in front of my garage thinking nobody is home. Well, I can't leave when they do that! No, it isn't perfect here in LV but I'd take these homes before LW or living on the economy again.

It's impossible to move into a house without complaining about something eventually. I agree, these spot lights they use in the ceilings are junk....so are the motion detector lights. We just had the one by our garage side door replaced two months ago and now it is already burned out. The quality of the materials available here is subpar. Corners were cut that's for sure. But it IS nice to be able to plug my American things into the wall, can't do that off base. The third bedroom we have isn't the size of a closet either.....I certainly don't miss those built in wardrobe/"Chest of Drawers" things.

Every built in wardrobe thing we had fell apart, mainly the drawers....and we don't pack that much stuff in our drawers. We moved on base and bought a nice real wooden bedroom set. It's built! Either way the states will be a welcomed move. I may even kiss the Tarmac once we land.

Kdude --- 14 years ago -

I would be complaining about the grass not being greener, have you looked over the fence at LW, because it makes everything you put down about LV look like nothing. Besides at least you have a garage! If you use it for storage that's your on prerogative, if you can't put your car in there then you need to sell off some of your stuff...

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

Julie

LV has its issues, that I will not deny. Those damn lights and the parking is crazy. But, I agree with Kdude - you look ove rthe fence and then look back at LV and it is like a whole different world. I don't mind that we are all squished together, I love my neighbor and their kiddos. It is what you make it I guess...but No Use For Name - I said I would kiss the airport floor when we landed in the states and my husband is holding me to that! I have no problem doing that!!!!

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

Does anyone know the aproament square footage of the LV 4 bedrooms? Are there any large walk-in type closets or storage closet inside the house? I like to turn walk in in closets into play area. : )

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

@ Dawnmom25

I cannot comment on the sq footage of 4 bedrooms, but with our 3 bdrm we have a "harry potter closet" by the kitchen and it is a BIG walk into closet..I know some friends use it for a play area - I have too much kitchen stuff (pampered chef and stuff) so the kids just play in their rooms (looks like an explosion went off). Hope that helps!

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

We had a Harry potter closet in both our houses at our last base. I used them both as a nursery. They were upstairs. We had an attached garage also. Hubby built a temp wall and made the kids a nice family room. We get creative with space.
I am crammed into a small house right now. We have really downsized on the amount of stuff. Looking forward to LV housing.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

I used to live in a unit just like there and I have several friends that live there. It may be old, but it's sturdy - not slapped together like here. None of them are breaking bones or are having things falling on their heads there. They keep their cars locked and posessions inside and have not had any "trouble". So yeah, I've "looked over the fence"...

Good grief. You want a dump? Housing in Georgia is a dump.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Housing in Georgia is a dump.

I actually LIKED our house on base at Moody AFB. We lived over on Mercury Drive and it was great! Central air, nice carport, screened in back porch, it was a nice one story two bedroom brick house. We actually miss it (not that we don't like our LV house!).

The older housing on Moody was old and falling apart though. But, by the time we moved onto base they were starting to tear those houses down. They have nice brand new housing on the base side of Bemiss now.....down by Mission Lake. I've seen pics, it's really nice! They almost remind me of the base housing on Dover AFB. Dover AFB has some great base housing. I'd go as far to say they are awesome houses there.

What is a Harry Potter closet? Sorry, I don't watch those movies. DawnMom, we (in our three bedroom) have a big storage room under our stairs that could definitely be used as a play room. Is that what you meant? We too have too much crap....I save boxes from things I buy for resale value in the future so it's full of those, and a Christmas tree.

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

That is pretty much what it is. We just called a "Harry Potter Closet" because in the movies that is where Harry's family made him live, a storage room under the stairs!

Dawnmom25 --- 14 years ago -

A Harry Potter closet is a walk in closet or storage that is big enough to be a tiny bedroom. We have had one that I fit a crib and dresser in.
I am curious about the amount of living space in the LV houses? Are they big and open? Are the kitchens large? Are the bedrooms a decent size?

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Oh! Lol! Well then I'd say yes, those are plenty big for a play room! The floor in there could easily be lined with those foam squares too.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

The kitchen isn't "cramped" and is open. It's not huge....but they are bigger and more open then any LW kitchen I've been in.

We have an American King Sized bed with a HUGE bed frame and matching bedroom set in our room and we can still move around in it. Our Son's room is big enough for all of his stuff, it's not the size of a typical British 3rd bedroom. Those are usually very tiny. We use the third bedroom as my "Man Cave" and all my stuff fits in there.....I have alot of things. We certainly aren't screaming for space! Lol!
