Has anyone had any experience with using a US mailing address to get things shipped here that will not be shipped to the APO or British address?

I should clarify, not stores that don't ship ... the store itself does ship to APO but a particular item will not.

We did it once or twice while in the pacific and it worked. If you can't get it to work here, try shipitapo.com. You ship it to them then they ship it to you. Just set up an account. I remember the fees being reasonable.

Thanks, I did come across shipitapo.com and apobox.com .... Ship it APO has a bad standing with the BBB and APO box has a good standing. I wasn't sure what other options I had or if anyone has used either of these.

I used shipitapo about 7 or 8 years ago. Go with whoever has good standing

From the resident mail man. APOBox is a recognized consolidator for USPS USPS Mail Consolidators

APOBox is cheaper than shipitAPO from my research and are very reliable and friendly. Make sure you set your class of mail for Priority! And remember that the max weight for mail is 70 lbs and 130 inches in length+girth. So APOBox can't ship that Serta for you ;-)

Thank you so much for that info!

The item I want has a shipping weight of 48.53 pounds and the box measures 30.0 x 24.0 x 41.0.

I think I am going to go ahead with it ... I will note how this turns out!!

I'm no math major but 41" in length, plus 108" in girth (height x 2 and width x 2), equals 149" total. 149" > 130" max. That's not going to ship, it will get to the consolidator an then sent back, probably with a fee. And if the consolidator tries to send it then it's just going to get sent back. Anyway to ship it to someone stateside, have them break it down to a smaller size and ship it? Sounds like the only way it's getting here.

On the APOBOX website it says they measure girth as H+W+H+W.
* How to measure package size:
Maximum weight: 70 pounds.
Length = longest side of the box
Girth = H+W+H+W (measurement around the the box)

Still feeling a bit uneasy about the shipping process though.

Thanks for your help!!

You need to go to the source USPS.com

Size limits You'll see it's is girth PLUS length.

How to measure

Trust me on this one I've been doing mail for awhile now...

Ok, but this is an item that normally ships within the US through the USPS so why would they not accept it?
