We only have AFN (barely since it's hardly even working) and we watch DVDs on our TV. Does this still qualify us to have to pay for the licensing?

Also, we leave in June and don't want to shell out more money if we don't have to. What's the best way to save the most money if we have to pay?

Well, I told my husband that according to law we do have to pay, but he said no. He also doesn't want to pay it and I'm right there with him but I don't want to be fined £1,000 when we've got 3 months left!

I bring it to attn because I got a call from them about it today so I now feel paranoid about it. haha

No kidding - I don't see the big deal in paying it??

This gets refuned through the finance office. So this should not be a worry anyways. Also, if you have a TV, regardless if you get a signal or not, you have to pay. There are some indiviuals who have big screen montors who have to pay for tax on them, cause they COULD be used as TV's.

Now, if you don't pay it, and take the time to go to finance to get refunded the money, and you get charged the 1,000 pounds, there is nothing anyone can do for you. That is non-refundable. BTW, they are allowed to enter your property to see if you have a TV, and I have heard of people getting notices, and saying someone came by to check. So it is your roll of the dice.

Not everyone can be a highroller like me.

But we strive to attain that high standard you have set...

Impossible.

Really? No hope at all?

They broke the mold after me.

That they did...

Mackenzie --- 14 years ago -

We called them and they told us we don't need to pay since we don't receive a signal for anything and only watch DVDs.

vdubber --- 14 years ago -

even a student at uni who downloads programs on to a laptop is supposed to have one! Anything with a screen that plays films, tv, videos, etc.. has to have 1

If she has a US spec TV then she wouldnt be able to recieve a signal. But if she has a computer with internet access then she needs one.
You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. This includes the use of devices such as a TV, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.

If you aren't hooked up to British TV signal you don't need a license. Look on their website or call if you don't believe me. The misinformation in social networks is unbelievable!

I have quoted this info directly from their website the LAST time someone talked about TV Tax. It's true! If you don't have British TV such as Sky (excluding AFN, DVDs, Video Games, BD, etc...) then you don't need to pay TV Tax. This info is directly from the TV Licensing people not me. Google it!

I've only got AFN & DVDs on my TV. Then, of course, the internet.

I didn't see the big deal since it's refundable as well but my husband just doesn't want to go through the shit of having to pay, I suppose.
