They have cars on the right side of the road in Lakenheath Village near an MOT place. I went to test drive a Honda Civic Aerodeck and there was a burning smell coming from the car on the drive. The guy says its because the farmers nearby were burning. I said ok fine that may be it. I look into the car on the inside to make sure there was no mold. My wife is pregnant and is allergic to mold. So I lift up the rear cargo cover for the spare tire and I find that the whole spare tire area is flooded with water. It was like a swimming pool in the back of the Honda under the spare tire cover.

At that point I was not interested in the car anymore. So the guy tells me that he has a green Volvo station wagon for sale for a cheaper price. So I look at it and the condition is awesome but it has pretty high mileage. I thought maybe I can live with that so I test drive it. On the drive the Engine service light flickers on for a little bit then cuts out. It did it twice on the drive. From that point on I have decided not to buy from them.

I know I dont have much money and I am not expecting a gold mine of a car. But I do need something that will keep my family safe.

It was i think 198,000 miles. I just did not want to deal with another light. I was already sold a car with an airbag light on by someone on Base. All they did was cover it up with a piece of electrical tape.

Water in trunks is common even with cars sitting brand new on the lot. A leaf can cause it to leak

@ Matt: I understand condensation in trunks but this was too much. If I had to guess I'd say more than 3 gallons.

I know what you mean I have seen brand new Chevys with the spare tires under water.

I think what Matt was saying is the seal can be broken simply by a leaf and allow water to enter, I've had a car where I had to be careful getting stuff in and out as it was easy to move the seal causing the same problem.

198k miles is high for a petrol car especially if there is no history with it, I have a deisel which needed a replacement engine at 265k and deisels should last longer (or so I'm told).

Airbag lights are a common fault and doesn't mean the car is unsafe, if it passes MOT like it should be fine. I actually dislike airbags as they can be more danger than a crash, having rolled an old metro when 7 months pregnant I can honestly say my now 4 year old was the safest in the car and had there been an airbag I wouldn't have been so confident.

No car should pass the MOT with the airbag light on, if airbags are fitted they must work. I personally would never buy a car from any of the so called dealers around the bases, they will all rip you off!!!

Not true, its an advisory if the light is on IF they can even be bothered with it. They are an added safety feature, the seatbelts are checked and can be a failure if not working correct.

Bet they aren't tested as well as the seatbelts were in this:

My wife and I have bought several cars from Apollo, and every time if we weren't happy the owner has been helpful. Then again, we were in the market for island bombs which we didn't expect to last more than a few years, and that's what Apollo sells.
