anyone know how to download the new map packs for xbox 360? I tried a free VPN service with macropvn.com and i keep getting a ERROR 691. I have already paid for the map pack through gamestop.com

SPECS:
US xbox 250gb slim
US xbox live gold family pack
US xbox COD Black OPS 

It may have something to do with XBOX Live trying to authenticate the purchase and can't because you are using VPN?

That's my best guess. I don't use VPN and my specs are:

US Spec Halo Reach 250GB Slim
US XBOX Live Gold

The last thing I bought and downloaded was Red Dead Redemption's "Undead Nightmare" add on and it downloaded without a hitch via my BT DSL connection through my DLink Modem/Router.

The ONLY things I cannot download are movies, and FULL games. I get a "Cannot download this from your location" error message. 

Microsoft is saying you input the wrong username/password to log into the VPN. That is what the Error 691 means.

Is it saying something about your region? I had issues downloading map pack for Gears or War. Just make a new FREE silver account. Make all your settings for europe. Then you will need to download them. They will save to your hardrive. Then log back into your Gold account and you can play the maps. That worked for me after hours of trying to figure out how to download maps for Gears. 

I did have to pay for the maps again though. Kinda sucked, but got to play them. I always have issues downloading because I brought my XBOX from the USA. But making the silver account with europe settings worked for me. 

sorry, let me clarify what I did. I tried to download the new map packs with just the xbox on my sky router. It says the maps are not availible for my region although my xbox is set to a US region.

SO i googled it and there is a way around the region block. You have to use a VPN service to make it think that you are in the US. Just like when you get on a computer and type in www.google.com but you always get the UK version in the UK www.google.co.uk With the VPN service running you will automatically be routed to the US google.com.

I was just wondering if anyone here had any luck with VPN or if they have found a way around this.

Back in the US I was unable to use my COD MW2 map packs downloaded from one account on another. So I dont want to risk paying for double as of yet.


Just a tip, there are many good uses of a VPN. The reason why I really want it to work out is to access all my US favorites that are restricted everywhere else. Like... n e t f l i x.

Brandon- Wow, I've never had that issue downloading map packs before. I only get the the "region" error for Movies and Full games (not Arcade games though). I'm going through BT and don't use any VPN services. I've downloaded quite a few map packs for various games without any problems.

Matt- Lol, that is why I REFUSE to use my PS3 for anything other than EXCLUSIVE titles or Blurays. It is probably the worst money I have ever spent on a gaming console. The online ability of it is severely crippled, they have it setup so horribly wrong I can't comfortably do any online gaming with anyone.

A good example is the "lobby". There isn't a pregame lobby so there is no way to plan anything. Example, my cousin and I have tried to play on our PS3s before and have to actually use the telephone in order to plan what we want to do. We can't just "chat" on the PS3 in the XMB and plan there....as soon as we leave the chat room the chat functionality is gone. Then, we are left guessing who is going to start the game, etc...etc...they *may* have fixed this with one of the many updates but we both feel it isn't worth the time as the 360 works perfectly....so why change?

He doesn't use his at all anymore. The ONLY reasons I still have mine around is simple 1. Huge Bluray collection. 2. God of War. 3. Metal Gear Solid and finally.....4. Uncharted.

Plus I bought a USB adapter for it that lets me use my genuine 360 controller with it (wired). So I actually enjoy it more now. 

@ Matt - I actually do have a PS3. I bought it when PS3's were cheaper than buying a bluray player. Up till now I only ever used my PS3 as a bluray player. Just a couple of days ago I jailbroke my PS3. Now I can play all the old school nintendo, super nintendo, genesis, arcade games on it.

Back to the XBOX issue. Problem solved. Even better, because I have netflix capabilities in the UK. 

@Brandon- What did you do? My husband would love to be able to get the map pack, and netflix...even better! Let me know how you got around it! 

we never had any issue getting map packs or downloading anything for other game but i would also love to get netflix on it 

I will set-up a tutorial on how to do it. It will be step by step. As long as you can read. As of right now, I am paying $10 a month to do this. Although, there is a way to get it free I just need to work out some issues. After I paid my $10 subscription fee I found out everything was easy enough for even my wife to figure it out. And believe me.. she does not know anything about computers. 

We get the region denial for downloading the map packs.
Brandon, let me know when you get that up. It would be awesome to just get the maps going.
