This thread is now in effect for a vote on a new addition to the "mod" family. This election is intended to add a British moderator to the site. This would be useful for many of the countless threads that crop up where a British moderator would be helpful. Community! Vote for your candidate!

So far we have:

Susan

Johnsalt

please feel free to "write in" your candidate of choice. Please, no trolling on this thread...lets keep it clean and to the point. A vote would be a simple "1 Vote for _________". Also, please feel free to check the candidates profiles in order to gain insight into your vote.

Since the current mods have the ability to "propose" a new mod then it seems fair to let the community decide the winner and not partake in the voting ourselves. Let the vote begin!

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

I am British :) lol

WitnessProtectionProgram --- 14 years ago -

I think we have to get rid of one to have another right? There was a line drawn when we first were originally voted in so I wonder if this number is at our max. If we do, I think it's quite clear who will be replaced.

Right now on Pendleton Underground I count 9 Mods.

I am British :) lol

Lol! News to me! Are you a military spouse? Just curious cause one of the good points I was thinking about regarding a local British person was that there would be a constant Mod even after all of us Milspouses/Active Duty PCS from here.

Also, just to clarify (I know nobody has asked yet) the reason I feel us Mods should NOT partake in the vote is so that nobody can use that as ammunition. You will never hear "The only reason you're a mod is because a mod voted you in!". This way it is strictly the community voting on it.

I know Jason isn't on here much (or at least he doesn't post often), his last post was 15 days ago...before that it was 102 days since he last posted. But I don't see any reason to remove him as mod, unless he requests it. There is room for another mod! Like I said, PU (lol! PU!) has 9 Mods! Dang! That is alot of mods!

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

I am a military spouse & PCSing in 4 years, and I agree that I dont think Mods should have a vote in this. Can we add another mod without replacing anyone?

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Can we add another mod without replacing anyone?

Yeah, I think so. I guess there is a link in user profiles called "Propose as a mod", it appears that only us mods can see this link. So, it would appear we can make a person a mod without removing one? That's what I took from it. I'll try searching Google more and see if I can clear it up.

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yeah I had noticed that too...so if someone proposes someone to be a mod, what happens? They become a mod straight away or do we all have to agree on it?

WitnessProtectionProgram --- 14 years ago -

As far as I am aware, only MODS can "get rid of" a MOD so I wonder if proposing a MOD, only the MODS will be able to vote anyway. I suppose there are ways around that though.

Jason may sure be a good guy but as you said and other people, he's not really here. No point in it is there? It's got nothing to do with his character and I highly doubt it will hurt his feelings. No biggie.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Well this is what it says right here on our Underground (under the "Mod" tab)

"The moderators can moderate themselves (add or remove mods by majority vote)"

So, I take that to mean if we hold a vote and a clear winner comes out of it, we, as moderators, can make that winner a mod.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yeah I had noticed that too...so if someone proposes someone to be a mod, what happens? They become a mod straight away or do we all have to agree on it?

It would seem we all (mods) have to propose the winner of the vote to be a mod, I'm guessing it would be immediate? Like I said on the revolt thread...we've never done this before so the end result is anyone's guess. (regarding whether or not it would be immediate mod status)

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Well I guess if all mods agree on adding another one, or majority of us agrees then we can try proposing someone and see what happens.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yep, we should give it a go...can't hurt anything and like I said it would be beneficial for the board to have a "constant" moderator after all of us eventually move on from England.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

I don't want a list of useless names on the mod list. I want a list of people who are here and I see. So, I'll just keep hitting revolt...

johnsalt --- 14 years ago -

Hi to the mods

I have lived locally in Beck row since 1973.I watched in the vip area at the Mac terminal the very first air show in 1976 at Mildenhall,i was a guest of the then Base commander and watched the first air show held on july 4th 1976 as it was the 200th aniversary of the Battle of independence.I have worked as a uk contractor for mildenhall base from
1983 to 1992,and from 1992 to 2007 i have supplied goods and services to usaf personel, and at the moment 50 active duty members use my company services weeklyIf we can get more mods then that will be great,im online most mornings from 4am and early afternoon, and in the eves.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

So, I'll just keep hitting revolt...

Julie, did you read the link to Pendleton Underground I gave in the "revolt" thread? It DOES NOT matter if the SAME people keep hitting revolt. From what I understand it is ONE REVOLT PER IP ADDRESS. Meaning one person could keep hitting revolt and the system is only going to count that person as ONE vote. Therefore it WILL NOT initiate a vote for new moderators. Even if it DID reach 100%. There have been a couple undergrounds where this has happened.

I'm not sure I follow the rest of your comment.

I don't want a list of useless names on the mod list. I want a list of people who are here and I see.

Does this mean you'd like to have tea with us on a regular basis? Wanna babysit my kid? Lol. Can you clarify that last comment? It's confusing cause we don't personally know you anymore than you personally know us....so what does it matter?

Steph --- 14 years ago -

I agree with SSDD, I do not know anyone on here. (as far as I know) I kinda thought that was the whole point of the screen names and what not? Hummmm, maybe I am wrong. Also thought that was the great thing about the internet.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Also thought that was the great thing about the internet.

Yes! The anonymity of the internets is priceless. I value this. Getting to know people from the forum is fine, I'd still like to get together for lunch with the other mods at some point! But I don't feel that our screen names are useless by any means.

Anywho, is anyone going to put in a vote for a new mod? VOTE people! That is what the thread is for! Lol! :)

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

I'd like to put this out there in the open:

*Speaking through Megaphone*

WE NEED SOME LOCAL BRITISH PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR LU MODERATOR. YOU WOULD BE IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT GROUP OF MODS THAT LU ALREADY HAS.

THE POINT OF THIS IS TO HAVE SOMEONE THAT CAN MOD FOR AS LONG AS LU IS UP AND RUNNING. LONG AFTER ALL THE OTHER MODS HAVE PCS'D FROM THE UK. SO, WHO WANTS TO RUN FOR MOD!?

*Turns off Megaphone*

So far we have "JohnSalt", Susan (but I think she is a MilSpouse...can you confirm this Susan?), we need some more people! Come on, in the words of Monty Python: "Get on with it!"

Kdude --- 14 years ago -

I'm from Florida and voted for Gore in 2000, so I'm sure my vote wouldn't be counted any way...

hehe, Kdude your vote would be counted. There is nobody from the Bush clan involved in this election.

Also, Moderators aren't taking part in the election. Our only role is to make the winner of the election a mod. But, we can't have a proper election without candidates! The requirements are simple, British and Local. Must live in the area permanently. In other words, you grew up here and you live here, Uncle Sam isn't going to be moving you to another continent in a few years. Simples.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

Somewhere in the conversation - instead of replacing dead weight, you would just "add a mod". And I said I would like to see a list of "active" mods rather then a long list of people who no longer participate on the board. Basically, replace James with not just a Brit mod, but who ever would like to be one.

No, I don't know who any of you are, you misunderstood what I said.

And I like clicking on the link... I need to get my kicks from something...

Jemma --- 14 years ago -

I would put myself forward but am also a mil spouse.

a3221716uu --- 14 years ago -

i vote for johnsalt

Ok, but I'm not seeing where this "dead weight" is. Jason is the mod that rarely posts on here, personally I don't see any reason to "remove" him from moderator status unless he requested it. The last time he was on the board he posted in a topic and gave a member useful info so in my book he is a valuable member of the forum. Also, "James" still posts on this forum and is still an active Mod. I'm him!

As for the revolt button, for me it is a "moral" thing. That button is designed to be clicked if the mods aren't doing their jobs and the forum is in dire need of people that are going to moderate the site.

It isn't meant to be something fun for the whole family to click just to get their kicks. It's like a fire alarm, you don't pull it unless there is an emergency. Which there isn't.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

I want to add that we need MORE candidates before we can actually hold a real election.

Initially I was under the assumption we had TWO candidates which now I think we only have one. The election is reserved for NON Military affiliated local British People. I've mentioned this before but we NEED to have a mod that isn't going to PCS EVER. One constant mod....

The current mods came about via a vote that was initiated awhile ago by Adam (he owns Bookoo with his Brother Austin). In the election myself, Masterchef, Wifey, Steph and Jason were all candidates. I won the vote and afterwards Adam put a post in that thread congratulating ALL the candidates for being the new Mods.

My point is there isn't a "set" number of people that can be a Mod. I've seen "Underground" forums that have as many as 9 mods and some that have as few as 2. There isn't a science to it.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

Jason - yes, my misake... I disagree. Make a post once in a blue moon does not entitle mod status.

A mod needs to BE here and control things when things get out of hand. Not just show up and make a good informative post about something... Big deal. He doesn't need mod status for that.

Like I stated before - the list shows 5 mods. I expect to see those 5. Maybe not every day, but certainly more then once a week. Otherwise, you have someone coming in and deleting things and locking things when they have not a clue as to what's going on. Not that that's happened on this board, but I have seen it.

Julie --- 14 years ago -

And I'm not talking about showing up when you're on vacation or something silly like that.

Being a mod is taking on a responsiblity. You either do the job and you're here to do the job, or give it to someone else.

And until that list has people who are HERE, I will keep clicking the revolt button because that's what it's there for.

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

And until that list has people who are HERE, I will keep clicking the revolt button because that's what it's there for.

This is where we disagree. This is what the revolt button says:

"The Revolutometer is a pulse on how happy the community is with the current governing administration. If the community is sufficiently ready for a governing change, then a revolution will automatically take place and new mod election held."

This random clicking of that button isn't fair for the rest of us Mods who ARE here and do care about the board. Out of five Mods 4 are here quite often yet somehow because one mod doesn't utilize his Mod status adequately that is a good reason to keep clicking revolt? Can I come to your house and bang a couple frying pans together for an hour or two?

O.o (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yea I'm a little confused. Didn't we settle the mod issue a month or so ago? I thought we picked at the time those we thought were the best qualified regardless of nationality. So what's everyone getting so upset about now?
