Has anyone sent beer to the states? Is it legal to send it from here to states?

I would like to send canned beer to family in the states, but I'm not aware of the rules. I know to pack it really well to prevent punctures, etc.
Any information would be helpful! Thank you!

You need to be a licensed importer to be able to send alcohol internationally.

Midge --- 14 years ago -

if you are flying home you can pack it in your checked suitcase

It's illegal to mail alcohol/beer even within the United States. You'll get caught mailing it from here, they X-Ray everything at Heathrow and are always sending us back bags/boxes of mail with cans in them. If you get caught you could end up in big trouble, more than just getting yelled at.

Make sure you declare it.

Cant wait for the Jail comics

You can pretty much buy any beer at larger liquor stores in the states

Matt --- 14 years ago -

Or the owner can get it from his distributor

Or I'll take it with me when I head there in January. :-)

Worst part about getting liquor/beer sent back to the APO is that we have to open the box and pour out everything. Though sometimes it's fun to bash the bottles, it's still a sad sobering moment :-(

Kdude - That's alcohol abuse!!! Party foul!! LOL J/K I know you got to do what you got to.

Jessi --- 14 years ago -

I was just sent a huge Whiskey Set from the states to my APO.... you could shake the box and hear it sloshing.... and on the paper stating what was in side was in capital letters "Whiskey Set". It wasn't opened and definitely not poured out!!

Jessi - Sometimes they slip through (dumb clerks, too busy to X-Ray, etc), can't catch them all, besides inbound stuff isn't X-Rayed very often anyway. But getting caught isn't fun. You probably use the Mildenhall PO ;-)

Jessi --- 14 years ago -

Nope my family sends this every year to me and I have never had anyone stop it.. And I use the Lakenheath PO, ;-)

Kdude --- 14 years ago -

Oh well can't catch them all. At least it's not as bad as the guy who tried to file an insurance claim for his wine that got broken and spilled everywhere during transit. Those guys make me laugh :-)

You can't get in trouble for it if you put on your stealth camo! They won't be able to see you! I do it all the time! They can't find me!
