This is probably, at minimum, the 10th time this dog has been re-homed. Come on! I knew the original owners (and Charlie) so that's how I know this. Why can't people research what the hell is going on with a dog before they take one in? I'm sorry, I've already got a dog or I probably would. It just really is frustrating because he's a fabulous dog. I really hope someone actually keeps him and works with him on whatever problems he's got. He deserves it.

I e-mailed the lady last night to offer some advice and suggestions as I have a springer at home as well. Patience is required with this breed but they are also the most loyal dogs in the world, I would never give up my Mojo. I would take him but we have 2 dogs here and are getting ready to PCS (yes we are taking our dogs with us, shocking I know). I feel so sorry for Charlie. It is more than likely his nerves from being rehomed so much and hasn't really bonded with anyone. I have thought of anything else my family and I could do but we cannot have another dog in base housing. It is ripping my heart out that my hands are tied, I just truly hope he finds a good forever home...

I agree, people need to make a life long commitment when getting a pet. I feel bad for these pets that get passed around and some even dropped off on the side of the road because the owner has found it too hard. I, therefore have no pets because I'd rather not take care of them on top of my child.

I just can't believe there's a price listed with that ad. Seems like they're asking for a huge favor, and then wanting money out of it? Not cool.

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

My kids would kill me if I ever got rid of any of our dogs, they are family. The Springer wakes my daughter up every morning, the rat terrier is my son's little buddy and sits next to him when he reads...

StayingAnonymous --- 14 years ago -

If she were concerned about the dog's welfare and finding him a good home then recovering the money she paid wouldn't be a concern. Poor dog :(

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

My parents have a Springer, most gorgeous, loyal dog ever! I'd get one but they do need a lot of exercise.

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

@Wifey - -that is where a laser pointer comes in! Very entertaining for us and Mojo loves it...he also runs with my hubby in the mornings.

Ashleigh --- 14 years ago -

:( I get sad thinking about a poor innocent animal that has no one to truly love him. I feel bad that he cannot speak to say what is wrong with him, or what he needs help with. People give up so easily...

I do not understand why they need $40 for him........ ick!

I was thinking that too, but if you consider it, $40 is not that much and if they are in really that desperate a situation I'm sure they would forgo that. My guess is that they're just trying to weed away folks who look for free pets but then treat them as well as how much they paid for them.

I have a lab and 2 kids. And I used to have a Westie and he developed a peeing problem but we didn't just hand him away. Charlie really is a sweet, sweet dog and there's not a whole lot I guess I was going to get accomplished but it was just nice to get it off my chest.

I'm flat out amazed and how many people research animals AFTER getting them. :/

Maybe when we have a bigger living room! lol I hadn't thought about running with my husbad...he goes in the forest which would be perfect. I really love Springers.

My Akita was my first dog and I have to admit I researched it after the fact. Mostly it's because you just don't know what you don't know. Holy cow, in retrospect I would not pick an Akita as anyone's first dog, but we're doing our best to stick with it. She was rehomed twice before us and that's our big driving factor as to why we wont give up.

Now, I do a lot more research beforehand (since we're considering a second).

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

We researched a few breeds before even considering getting a dog over here. Our older dog is with Mom and Dad in the states as the vet said she was too old to fly with us (got her 3 days after we got married over 11 years ago and she was already 2yrs old). When we decided on getting a pure bred due to the RSPCA not allowing Americans with young kids adopt. We researched springers, pointers, beagles, jack russells, huskies, and GS's (I really wanted a GS but with flying him/her back we were concerned with the weight). So we went to a reputable breeder and got Mojo, paid a pretty penny but it was worth it! If you are even considering a dog research is a must!!!!

WitnessProtectionProgram --- 14 years ago -

We didn't research Anna either but we knew no matter what, the dog was ours. I'm sure a lot of people think that before they get a dog too but...we're different in the way that we actually mean it. She was 4 months old and skin and bones. I got horrible looks from people since we got her in the winter and anyone could see her ribs just walking her. I'm sure people thought that we did that to her. We got her from another American couple in Germany. We also had a Daschund who we had to put to sleep before we got here. She started to not even be able to get up to go potty anymore and we didn't want her to die on the way over. We miss our blind and deaf Sookie very much!

That's why I just feel researching is best. I knew what I was getting into when getting a lab but I decided to go fro the gusto and she is the best decision I've ever made. She's less than a year and doesn't chew, doesn't jump, well she does run off when she wants to lick people to death. But if thats the worst I've got in her, I'm okay with that!

By the way, we adopted a retired greyhound without a single problem until we brought the dog home. She had separation anxiety SO bad she was a safety to herself and our home so we thought it was best to bring her back. Those people took her, and offered us another dog. We declined. When I emailed them after, they never emailed me back. It was a shame because I cared about that dog a lot.

hi everyone, i would just like to let you all know, that i have taken charlie, we picked him up yesterday, he is truely a fab dog, we love him to bits all ready, i did research the bred before i picked him up, and we are a VERY active family, we have other dogs, horses, ducks, chickens and the list goes on, lol the reason we got charlie is that my 17yr old son wanted a dog to be his, go with him everywhere, and generally be his companion, he works on the land driving tractors etc so charlie can go with him there, charlie is a very welcome addition to our family, AND WILL BE WITH US FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! i hope this puts all of your minds at rest feel free to email me and ask about charlie anytime, shamrocksmum@btinternet.com my name is karen bell

TakeS --- 14 years ago -

That's great news! Thank you! I know he's rambunctious but he's a springer for heavens sake! Let us know how the peeing problem is for you. And I hope everything works out for you all!

shamrocksmum --- 14 years ago -

Let us know how the peeing problem is for you.
well so far so good, we have no accidents at all, but then we are outside with the other animals for pretty much most of the day, and it is only day 2, he has been an absolute super star, mixed in with all the other dogs like he has always lived here, he has been running around the field while we sorted out the horses today, all in all success all the way (so far)lol, and thank you

A nice ending to what could have been a sad story...

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

@ Karen! Thank you thank you thank you! I am so thankful someone got him and sounds like he will get the love he deserves. I have tears in my eyes right now because for a week straight I tried to think of anything I could do to help - I bugged most of the people at work about him!! Keep us updated!!! Thank you for taking the time to let us know!!!! Big relief for us as my entire family wanted him to get a great home since we couldn't take him!!!! YAY!!!

TakeS --- 14 years ago -

Hello everyone, its good to hear that Charlie is doing really well with Karen. I was actually the one who rehomed him. I understand everyones concerns about why hes been rehomed so many times and the ignorance of people including myself. well i have patience for dogs. i admit i didnt do research because i was so excited to have him i was willing to work with him BUT my husband was not and would not come to an agreement at all . i took him to the vet to at least get him his shots and turn to find out he didnt have ANY shots on file, which is quite pathetic considering the fact that hes been rehomed so many times so i made an appointment with intentions on keeping him but i had a decision to make and i made it. but charlie is an AMAZING dog but my husband was just fed up. so i hope he is there to stay. & if you have any comments to add feel free :) i can use the criticism. Thanks
