Has anyone been to this salon before and what kind of experience did you have?

Does anyone recommend any other salon?

I used to go to LOX in Mildenhall to get highlights/lowlights and trims until I discovered my stylist was pretty much secretly doing whatever she wanted to the back of my head. After so many visits my hair in NO WAY looked like any of the directions I ever gave her! I had instructed her to cut quite a bit of my length back in 2008 to fix a style I had going on, only to get the SAME exact thing I had before, only shorter.

I kept visiting her in 2009-early 2010 & it had grown back out. She said I needed to get trims every 6 weeks, so I went every 6 weeks to do this! MY MISTAKE!- She became way too scissor happy and I somehow have VERY VERY short layers in the back of my head!! I never once, since 2008, ever expressed to her I wanted layers. She was also only highlighting those short layer pieces only! It looked like I had a SUPER grown out mullet that I couldn't part with and she was highlighting the short part!! Yeah, yeah, yeah I know this may seem funny but it was really frustrating.

I just want to grow my hair out to one length. NO LAYERS. Back in 2008 I thought by cutting it I would get it so short that it was "starting over" and I could do this- I was WRONG!

So now my hair is being dyed myself (box kit), and I have not had a trim in months. My hair is the longest it has ever been in my entire life and I am deathly afraid for someone to go crazy with scissors on my hair. I need for someone to seriously follow directions/ my request. I do not NEED a style or length cut off. I need only a trim and dead ends cut off.

I know this sounds crazy, but I am actually VERY nervous for someone to cut my hair.

:(

P.S I usually spent 90.00 GBP and tipped her 15.00-20.00 GBP to put my total at 110.00 GBP-(Usually.) On my 6 week trims I would pay 17.00 GBP and tip her 10.00 GBP. I thought for this much money I should atleast be happy.

Do not go to the tall gal in the RAFL Salon with brown hair, she did the same thing with my layers -SUPER SHORT! The only person that has cut me hair and colored it to perfection, had a baby and never came back..oh how I miss her! I have had to start coloring it myself and it looks very blah now! Let me know if you find someone!

My friend used to go to Innovations right before she moved. She loved it. I've tried many places over the years I've been here and will be going there next.
Mind you I've been growing my hair out over the past year...

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

I havent been there but my friend has but for some reason wasnt happy so she went to the salon on base and now has the man (Michael or something?) cut her hair, and I've been there when she had her daughters cut and he cut it exactly how she wanted it, was friendly and gave suggestions.

I have had mine cut at Tramps in Brandon, and they normally listen to instructions and Silver Scissors - which I loved that cut and the hair dresser!

I recently went to a salon in Thetford and WANTED layers but she didnt give me any.

Jessi --- 14 years ago -

I have been to innovations... once! and that was the only time!! I went in to get a very fine weaved highlight and came out looking like a zebra!! I even had pictures from when I had my hair done with the fine highlight so she could see EXACTLY what I wanted, basically for it to all blend, and was told it could be done with no problems, HA... 65 GBP to look like a zebra.... no thank you, never again!!

I Highly reccomend Michael at the base salon on Lakenheath. He does exactly what you ask for. If he thinks it will look bad he will tell you straight up and will not do it. I have been seeing for him for 2 years now and LOVE him. I will cry when I leave:>:>

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

@ Wifey - Which salon RAFL or RAFM? I will totally ask for him, I need a trim and color! Granted my color is a little on the weird side for some but I love it and work has no problem with it. 3 different colors, Blonde, Black and Red!!! Right now it is just boring brown :( and I am a sad panda...

wifey (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

It is the salon on RAFL,

Aww you better get your hair done so you're happy again lol

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

Thanks Wifey!!! Must wait til Jan..Christmas presents come first... :)

Voice of Reason --- 14 years ago -

I use Natalie who advertises here on LYS, she does exactly what I ask and I'm one happy customer. I have long hair with layers only at the front and a fringe (bangs), I go every 12 weeks for a trim and my roots which I do myself in between visits. I have had her do highlights and am having them done again on my next visit.
Her prices are great but I would think its a good idea to book well in advance to make sure you get a time and date to suit you, I always book before I leave for 12 weeks ahead.

Ashleigh --- 14 years ago -

Thanks girls!!!
I have decided I will NOT be calling Innovations. What Jessi said makes me too nervous... That is something that would make me have a total complete meltdown.
I considered calling Natalie who advertises on LYS but her pictures are of "funky" hair styles and colors. Nothing wrong with that especially if it is what you like. :( I don't like to take risks, change my ways, or try anything new when it comes to hair. I have just been trying for so long to get what I want...

Her work seems very bold. Which is COOL, just not for me.

lalaro --- 14 years ago -

Dude, the RAFL people wound up giving me this horrible mullet thing. I was sad. I really want to try Innovations though, but I may try Mildenhall first. I'm not about to drop 65 pounds to look jacked up. Ugh, hair is soo hard.

Jessi --- 14 years ago -

I have yet to find someone else to do my hair after the person who was awesome pcs'ed.... I am terrorfied to go somewhere again and just get it trimmed.... I have heard the people at RAFL salon are scissor happy... I really need a trim, but someone cutting too much off right now might get to see a pregnant lady in killer action lol.

t49248 --- 14 years ago -

DO NOT got to Natalie. She has no mirrors and you can't see how much hair she is cuttiing off, and you can end up looking like a horrible "before" photo (like me). I specifically told her that I have been growing out my hair and only wanted it trimmed. I left her house looking like Joe Dirt, and spent my drive home bawling my eyes out. That happened 7 mo. ago and my hair is just now starting to look (somewhat) like it used to. She seems like she's better suited for shorter hair, so if your hair at the middle of your back or longer--STEER CLEAR.

Amy --- 14 years ago -

Lava hair designs in mildenhall is awesome I have been going there for three years now and never left unhappy, and they give awesome scalp massages with gourmet coffee and wine.
I have 1/2 price coupons for new people if anyone is interested.

Ashleigh --- 14 years ago -

Theresa,
OH MY GOD...... :( I am so sorry that happened to you. I would have CRIED for DAYS... I noticed her photos on LYS are of short cuts. Which scares me. When I was growing up my grandmother had her own salon, so of course, I was getting super short cuts ALL the time. Once granny told me I would get a short hair style like Meg Ryan chin length, and it ended up so short on the top of my head that I needed gel to spike it. I REALLY did not like my grandma for about a year after that! & I locked myself in the bathroom for days crying. --- so, I REALLLLLLLLLLLY do not like people just doing whatever they want to my hair.

I am even scared about a trim, I will have major separation anxiety. Trying to grow my hair all the way down my back but my ends need to come off to keep it growing without breaking off.

Toni and Guy in Cambridge is good - I generally go to Eleanor at Lox and am always pleased with them...they also helped me with colour-corrective work after a disasterous highlight-hair cut I had at the salon in the Lakenheath BX - God that was a living nightmare - my hair turned orange - NEVER NEVER again will I go there...although I have heard of people who went to the same girl and they seemed OK with her - she just didn't listen to what I was telling her and wanted to do her own thing - with disastrous results - then told me my hair wasn't orange and took me outside as she said the lighting was bad in the salon!!! I refused to pay and the mangeress seemed OK with that (she looked a little shell-shocked) to be honest.

Ashleigh --- 14 years ago -

Oh yeah. I have heard HORROR stories about the salon in the BX building. I mean down right HORROR.

I know this girl who had naturally platinum blonde hair and dyed it BLACK herself. After a year or so she wanted to lift the black off and go lighter brown. Let me tell you this poor girl STILL had black hair but roots every color of the rainbow. I saw this with my own eyes. The man there tried several attempts at this, therapy treatments for her hair, then more attempts, and she still has black hair to this day. The manager there would only give her HALF her money back.

She would have to shave her head and start over to get her gorgeous blonde hair back.

&& I know Eleanor @ LOX ;) :(

Anita --- 14 years ago -

Alice at the Lakenheath BX is excellent I have been seeing her every 6 weeks for over a year. She is always booked so call to get an appointment next month :) Micheal is also good.

QNess --- 14 years ago -

I HIGHLY recommend Cameo in Mildenhall Village. Sally there is amazing. Everyone at my workplace uses her now. Her prices are unreal and she does an excellent job. I get a high-light, and low-light, a cut, and style for 45GBP. I love her and I'm so happy that I've found her!! Her phone number is 01638713092

I must say my hair isn't really bold or funky, in fact the first time I had her do my highlights I commented on how she made me look like Hannah Montana! which is nice because she's half my age, lol. I think she uses picture of the more interesting hairstyles to get noticed.

Oh and don't waste your money on a splitender. I have one and really doesn't feel the same as if you've had a trim from a hairdresser, I like to see a straight edge where my hair has been trimmed and this doesn't do that.

Lisa --- 14 years ago -

I LOVE Lauren at Definition. They are in Eriswell behind Auto village. From what I understand all the girls are great there, but I have been going to Lauren for about 9 months now. Let me tell you this, I am CHEAP! I have never really cared to keep up with my hair. I'd go a year without a trim. Now, I love how Lauren does my hair that I go religiously to her! Their prices are fantastic! She's the only one EVER to get the highlights perfect in my hair. the salon atmosphere is lovely, and all the girls there are fantastic!

I'm very sad to hear that theresa was so unhappy with her hair cut.so i would like to send my apologies.this is the first time i have had a unhappy client and totally understand her upset.however i would like to point out that i take my work seriously and have had lot of really happy people go away feeling great.i think to say something like "STEER CLEAR"is over the top and can damage someones carrier and reputation.AFTER ALL IM ONLY HUMAN.:-)

Voice of Reason --- 14 years ago -

I hadn't noticed Theresas post before Natalie commented, if I had I would have had to disagree about her ability to cut long hair.

I have been going to Natalie since the beginning of the year and if I had felt unhappy with my hair I would have politely told her ie 'I would prefer this like that' and you can always tell how much hair has been cut by what is on the floor as its clean when you go there so you know its all yours.

Also its seems (I may be wrong) Theresa registered just to post the above. That said, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Jenh --- 14 years ago -

Since we are all talking HAIR - question! My daugther is 4 and she has had 1 hairsut her entire life, it is still VERY long no biggie she loves "rope hair" (Braids), but I was thinking how often should I get her's trimmed?

She is getting split ends! I need mine trimmed as well. Maybe I should just take her with when I get mine done.

marion --- 14 years ago -

oh my god i could not believe my eyes when i read theresa remarks on natalies skills at her hairdressing,i myself, family and friends are her clients and we have never had any cause for complaining about her hairdressing skills, and if had any complaints i would have had the balls excuse my impression) to tell her and not slag her off on a web site, but people that are genuine clients would,en do that.

Alexis --- 14 years ago -

I cannot belive what has been said on here about Natalie! I've been going to her for a long time now and have NEVER been disappointed. I have sent over a dozen friends her way and they have all be beyond thrilled with their end results. I'm SUPER picky when it comes to my hair...I've been in the beauty industry for years doing nails and it's takes a lot for me to be happy. After dishing out TONS of money to the Salon on RAFL and going through 3 different stylists after 2.5 years I finally found Natalie and not only are her prices unbeatable but her work is outstanding. She listens to you and if you tell her what you want she will work with you to achieve the desired results. I have long hair with blonde blonde highlights and my blonde has never once turned brassy and she has never cut to much off. In fact since I've been going to her, I go every six weeks and my hair has started to grow! When I was going on the base it wasn't going anywhere because they were entirely to scissor happy! I myself have a more funky hair style, but my more conservative friends have also been SO happy with their hair! Her pictures are of more funky styles, but that what gets attention! Usually if someone can do more funky stuff they can definitely do more toned down looks as well! I am a nail technician and I put up more funky eye catching pictures of nails as a marketing tactic to draw attention, but needless to say I can still do a basic french manicure!

I just hope that people do not take 1 persons opinion on this fantastic hairdresser! Look at all the positive feedback she gets as opposed to negative and make your own opinion!
