Where should I take my wife? I am taking my wife on a surprise trip in Aug and I am open to places to go. We just came from Rome two weeks ago so not Italy. I would like to fly Ryanair, they are cheap. It will be just me and her (no kids)... So hit me with your ideas places you have travelled to and hotels too... Thanks alot... If I use your idea I will buy you a massage from Massage by Megan I get one from her every other week and she is great You can find her on Lakenheathyardsales.com p.s. My wife does not read this site so she will not find out ;-)
PRAGUE! Prague is the most beautiful city I've ever seen, and I've been all over Europe the last three years! There is so much to see, and there are great tours you can take of the city, which I highly recommend. as far as a hotel I wasn't fond of ours, but it depends on what you're looking for. Are you into nice hotels or do you just want a place to sleep? You can take RyanAir there as well so nice and cheap :-)
I absolutely fell in love with Eldewiess In Germany. You can fly RyanAir, rent a car and drive down. The drive is the most beautiful I think I've ever seen. You follow a fast flowing river through the snow capped mountains. The lodge is amazing. 3 Restraunts, casino, pool, bars. Alot to do there, the rooms were fantastic and there is so much to do surrounding it. There is a lake to rent paddle boats on and places to eat overlooking the lake. It's lake Eibsee which is about a 10min drive away. You can take cable cars up to the top of the Alps and have lunch up there. You can go to Neuschwanstein Castle, Spend the day in Munich, visit the Salt mines ect ect....Hope you find a fantastic place and let us know what you decided.
I agree with Eldewiess if you can't fly to Switzerland on RyanAir. Interlaken to be exact. The Schilthorn has a resturant that spins in the air (albiet slowly) and you have the Jungfrau (they have ice carvings inside and chocolate that they only make on the Jungfrau and can get no where else in the world) and Trummelbach (glacier) and then there is Mount Pilatus which has the steepest cogwheel ride in the world up to the top. The rivers are all an aqua/teal color because of all the glacier water. Its amazing. It can get expensive but much more so with children so if you can, go there without them! We did it with them and it was fine, just more money. The sights are like none other in the world. Trust me.
I really enjoyed Edelweiss as well, but I really like to get submerged in the culture around me. I guess cause Edelweiss is a resort for US military, I didn't really feel like I was getting as much culture as other places like Prague, Ireland and Italy.
But Edelweiss is very nice as well and so are the surrounding areas.
The thing about Edelwiess is that there isn't a huge amount of research that needs to go into it. Especially if you're going to re-connect with your wife it's just so nice to go and relax and let the resort tell you/show you the places to see and visit. It's a place I feel you can go and Breathe and not do the "touristy, sight seeing" stuff. I wonder if that even made sense. I know when I get the RARE chance to go somewhere alone with my husband I like to go somewhere and relax and not have an itenirary planned for every single day.
Venice...love Venice. Actually, Poland is my fav. place but not very romantic :)but a real 'must see'. Venice is just a really neat place...stay at the Danieli (sp)if you really want to splurge :). The food is YUM.
We just got back from Edinburgh and omg sooooo pretty and such friendly people!
Brugge is awesome, it is an untouched town and not rules by tourism. The main way to get around there is by boat on all the canals that channel in and out of the city. Its so beautiful and breath taking that we go there every summer and never get board.
I agree with AF_wife7, I was going to write everything she already said. :) Edelweiss is soooo cozy! If you are on leave for atleast 3 days you can get the Gas Ration Esso Card; we drove through Austria, Switzerland, & Liechtenstein all in 1 day!
Amsterdam. Pretty sweet even without the weed and whores. Ryan air flies there out of Luton. Use Expedia and you can buy touristy stuff upfront. If you have any ?s let me know
D_FLIP - Prague that sounds nice I am doing my research on that now it sounds really nice. I like taking the tours; we took tours in Rome, London, and Bath. I am looking for a hotel in the middle one that is nice but will not break the bank.
af_wife7 - Eldewiess, you make it sound beautiful; I was not looking at renting a car. I was just looking at flying to a spot taking the bus/tube and then flying back. I would like to spend time just me and her in a few spots with not alot of travel. Whether it is at a beach, castle, or a hotel... (It can not be a casino, I know myself way to good. I want it to be about her)
Masterchef - Interlaken, I love my wife but she is scared of heights .
Dude thanks for the advice on Poland, and yes we Love Italy all together.
Lalaro nice try
Amy I never heard of Brugge. I will look into that one. Where did you stay at there and what is there to do there?
Matt Amsterdam, I promised my best friend when he came to visit me from the states I would go with him the first time. He is my highschool friend and would kill me if I went without him... =-) So I cant go there. But I will later
I will be looking everyday at your postings am comment and let you know where I pick for us to go. I will also know who I buy the massage for. I am a man of my word.
Im scared to death of heights. My palms sweat, my breathing gets very heavy. Hate heights. But, the view is worth it and I didn't have a problem. Everyone was shocked!
The things that we like in brugge is the channel cruises, Belfort, The Church of Our Lady, Market Center, it is an untouch town so everything is the way it used to be, they have amazing chocolate stores all over the town, along with the best beer you will find. The place to go is the town center it is amazing. Belfort is in the town center is you can get a great view of the whole town from the tower. We have stayed at the Golden Tulip and the Academie both are great and equal distance from the town. The Academie had a better breakfast and parking which was nice. If you google Brugge you can see how beautiful it is, its kinda hard to explain.
check out Tripadvisor.com and viator.com, they are both amazing websites for travelers reviews and for booking tours. My husband and i have been all over the place and we constantly use those websites.
We also use travelocity.co.uk pretty often as well.
I like Prague because there is so much history and the entire town is Gothic architecture. you can do a lot or just walk around and enjoy the sights while doing nothing.
Also, the beer is some of the best I've had. Just a bonus :-)
My 2nd choice would be Brugge like Amy mentioned. It's in Belgium since you didn't know. It is freaking beautiful. I loved it at night. It was so quiet and the lights on the water in the canals were awesome. Can we forget chocolate either!!
Brugge is very pretty - we went a few times when we were stationed in Germany and never got tired of just walking around looking at the scenery!
Def. go to Krakow at some point and if you can, go to Auchwitz (sp?) which is I want to say about 2 hrs from Krakow. Krakow is beautiful and omg the food is soooo yummy - go to some of the basement restaurants.
I am looking up the Brugge righ now what airport did you fly into? I am looking in the Ryanair web site and did not see the airport they fly into. So far is between Brugge and Prague... I as of right now I will go to one of those two... =-) thanks guys I will let you know when I book the tickets...

I drove all four times I have been to Brugge, its only 4 hours away and a fair ride from Dover. I am sure there is an airport nearby. All this talk about Brugge is making me want to go back again and I just got back a few weeks ago my hubby and me just love it there.
If you are just looking for somewhere to take your wife and don't really care where, go to Skyscanner.net and look for a flight going anywhere. It will allow u see different places and prices. I Suggest doing Edelwiess and Prague durring the winter it is absolutely beautiful and romantic. Lots of lights and christmas markets. Barcelona is pretty and lots to see and do. Or you can just hang out on the beach all day. I just returned from Cyprus last month. It is beautiful and sunny! Great place if you are looking to just relax and enjoy the sun. I suggest Skyscanner.net for any holiday or flight. Sometimes Ryanair isnt the cheapest. Also sometimes packaged holidays are cheaper then booking a flight and hotel separate. Hope this helps!

Sorry I have not had time to reply back in a while, it is hard. My wife does not know about this site so I only do it at work and work is realy jumping right now. I just call and checked with ITT on the Ferry tickets, WOW it was 95 pounds for the Ferry and way more for the train. I thought the Ferry would be more romantic... I hope she likes it... Where ever I go I decided I wa going to drive...
