Does anyone have any info on Barksdale they can share, good, bad, whatever. Me and my husband are trying to decide if we want to be stationed there since we have family in La. Are there better areas to live in than others? Anything you can share would help on trying to decide. 

Barksdale is not bad. despite what you may see on the news, Shreveport isn't as bad as it is made out to be. I lived in Bossier right at the border of Haughton, because when I got there I bought into the hype that Shreveport was hell on earth. Well, after being there for a little while and exploring, I saw that there were some pretty nice areas in Shreveport as well. There is the Boardwalk that has good shopping outlets, and the best movie theater in the area. Both malls in Bossier and Shreveport are pretty terrible. If you have kids, you will probably be told that Stockwell and Apollo are the best schools in the area. We did Stockwell, and it left a lot to be desired. They tried to medicate my neighbors kid, they held back a kid (twin) in Kindergarden while his brother went to 1st grade, and after arriving here, I found out the principle used to be a peeping tom. I've got the article on my desktop to prove it. All in all, I liked Barksdale, but I just wish I had more information before I made certain decisions. Also, you're close enough that you could live in Texas if they have benefits that you might like. It cant be anymore than a 25 mile drive to the state line. A long time ago was there. You have things to do around you within driving distance.However, it is hot but a friendly town for the most part. I don't know about now but jobs were relatively plentiful for spouses off base. We lived in Houghton and also on base. Both were good times. For me, family nearby would seal the deal. However, Shreveport may be too close to family for you if they are right there in the area?
