Can someone PLEASE tell me what you have done to keep your house cool? We live in Liberty Village and have a fan in every room and it is still too hot! Even at night we all sleep on top of our bedding and can't hardly sleep. The ceiling fans are useless and the stand up fans we bought aren't helping much either! I grew up where it was really hot but we had AIR CONDITIONING! What the heck?!?!?

LoL I feel you on this girl..Me and my family like that at night to ughhh...During the day I keep all the blinds close But I do cover my big sliding door with dark curtains for a nice shade which seem to keep it cooler down here.I come from Tx which we all know its hot there!!I don't know what the hell they was thinking No AC pffffftttt!!

Celeste --- 15 years ago -

I keep the blinds closed but with the windows opened. If you have the blinds close going up it gets darker so that might help. Make sure your heaters are off. I thought they were off but I had missed some. Even though one is one makes a difference.

af_wife7 --- 15 years ago -

I keep the windows open all night so that in the morning its cooler in the house and it seems to help during the day.

Matt --- 15 years ago -

I bought an A/C unit here portable and kicks butt turn it on at 6pm for 15 mins and cools the room for the rest of the night

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

Invest in the small ac units for the floor or if you can get one to sit in the window even better. I have the floor ones and they help a bit. It is no american AC but better than the heat

Shari --- 15 years ago -

Thank your luck, if you believe in it. In Lord's Walk we don't have ceiling fans. :-/
I crack the windows (blinds shut) on the sunny side of the house, and open wide the windows on the shaded side of the house. Still, on the hot nights there just isn't much for it but to suffer through.

Aimee --- 15 years ago -

This is the warmest (and driest!!)summer we've had in the 2.5 years I've been here. Like everyone has said, open windows and close blinds on the sunny side of the house, and open them on the shady side of the house. We never got the portable AC units because they're expensive, and you really only need them for a week or two during the summer. But I'll take a warm English day without AC over the heat and humidity with AC in the southern US any day lol.

af_wife7 --- 15 years ago -

I'll take a warm hot house anyday over the fridgid depressing winters.

Laurie --- 15 years ago -

They don't bother with AC as there isn't very many days where you really need it... but dang, I need my AC or I can't sleep! We did buy a portable unit and that's a lifesaver. It also drowns out the outside noise of having your window open...

lalaro --- 15 years ago -

hate the whole no ac thing. I open all the windows and then have to worry about being to loud. Then in the bathroom if I have to take a dump I have to make sure the window is closed first, otherwise my neighbors are gonna know I ate the bean burrito from Taco Bell. On top of that if I get ready to put on some R Kelly and get superfreaky the windows must all be closed other wise my neighbors are going to know way too much.... UGH!!!!

☠MoMOf2SillyBoys☠ --- 15 years ago -

Lmao @ Lalaro that is so true what you said there ha ha ha.yes with every window open you hear everything and sum ppl can't handle that and understand we trying to keep our house cool and beat the heat in the house..

Amy --- 15 years ago -

Homebase sells A/C units that are really good if you are willing to pay for them. we have two an they do our whole house and our house is big for the UK.

Matt --- 15 years ago -

Make sure its an A/C not an Aircooler that uses Ice..

ShizzleShizzleDizzleDizzle (Mod) --- 15 years ago -

Right now Alaskan Air Con is having a good sale on AC units. My wife & I are buying one soon. Much cheaper and more powerful than those offered in the stores. Also, they have the same features as those that are being sold by a guy on LYS.

Jeni --- 14 years ago -

When we first moved here, they were suffering one of the driest and hottest summers on record. All of the grass was brown and the lavender on base looked awful. I was 7 months pregnant and TLF was HOT. We had a busted water pipe that was leaking water into our kitchen, but according to laws, the employees couldn't work during the high temperatures, so housekeeping would just give us towels to lay all over the kitchen floor. It would "rain" on us while we were getting food from the refrigerator-- just awful. But the best part was my first venture into the BX. It was HOT, no cooler than our TLF and I stood in the entry way trying not to cry. Fun times. :-)

Beware all. There are new rules about portable AC units that says they are not authorized in any USAFE building. I dont know how that will affect base housing in the enforcement category, but this is a hot topic right now.

Matt --- 14 years ago -

Where did you hear this?
Its hotter than heck in my building WITH the portable A/C units on full blast. Sitting down at a computer your soaked with sweat.

**** --- 14 years ago -

my husband had an email about that today too... craziness

lizglowark --- 14 years ago -
