I have a bunch of trash bags that wouldn't fit in the can (and god help me if I cram it in there), so I threw them into the compost bin...what do I do now? Is there a dump somewhere nearby? I'm new and know little about this place. I was thinking of using them as bean bag chairs but some are leaky and smell.

Denise --- 15 years ago -

Where do you live Lalaro?

suez --- 15 years ago -

there is a dump just outside of mildenhall,on the way to thetford.as you go to 5ways roundabout from mildenhall head towards lakenheath/ brandon and take your first turning right towards thetford and its just up there your first left.it is sign posted too, hope that helps.

Call Vince he is awesome and he can take it away for you and he is cheap to. I have used him twice now. He had a truck full of stuff from me and it was $20. Was about 4-5 bags of trash and some chairs and boxes of junk. He is good. Vince 07825616138

KMSRAFL, Not just anybody can take away your rubbish - "The homeowner must contact a company with the relevant licence to remove such items for proper disposal." That includes any bags that cannot fit into your bin. Contact your local council if you have any questions. http://www.recycle.co.uk So you will be better off taking to the dump yourself.

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

So then according to you wifey I can not take my own stuff to the dump? I have done it with a friend before why is it so different if someone else takes it for me?

Amanda --- 15 years ago -

Obviously not if they just said So you will be better off taking to the dump yourself.

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

"The homeowner must contact a company with the relevant licence to remove such items for proper disposal." This is telling me I can not do it on my own. But then why is the dump there? If I have to contact someone from the city or whatever to come and do it.

Denise --- 15 years ago -

There is a dumpster on RAf Feltwell by where I live and I bring my stuff there all the time :-)

Amanda --- 15 years ago -

It's not their personal opinion. I don't get from it that you can't do it yourself.

Julie --- 15 years ago -

I think she was saying that you can take it yourself because it's your trash, but if you hire someone, they have to be licenced... Whatever - $20 is too much just to go to the dump... I would rather do it myself.

wifey (Mod) --- 15 years ago -

Yes, that is right Julie. If you dont want to take it yourself, someone licenced is allowed to take it for you. I'm just letting you know the law incase you didnt know :)

Joseph & Rossana --- 15 years ago -

KMSRAFL is just pissed Vince isnt gonna get this business. And to the person that dumps their personal trash on Feltwell...not a good idea..Illegal dumping is serious on most bases. And they arent there for your personal use.

Denise --- 15 years ago -

Where am I supposed to out my trash then? They don't take the bins if they are even opened a little from too much trash and I'm certainly not paying someone to come and take my trash....how are they gonna say I can't put my trash in the dumpster right down the street from my house?

Julie --- 15 years ago -

Denise, are the bins marked for office trash only or is it for housing? RAF Lakenheath has it's own little recycle center on base - it wouldn't be far fetched if Feltwell had something too.

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

No I am not I am just letting you know he was good and cheap and saves you the trouble of having to find somewhere to dump it and saves you from going to go it. Someone else is out there who wants to do it.

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

I am tired of rule sticklers. Unless you are going to turn the person in who cares where it is dumped and who dumps it as long as it gets done and is not stinking up your yard or house.

Denise --- 15 years ago -

Julie~ It's not marked. Also, we do have a recycling center over on Feltwell, just down the street from me. And if you make a left there and cross the street, the dumpster is right there. It might very well be for housing.

It is a serious offense if YOUR garbage is dumped somewhere it is not supposed to be; it is illegal. It is called FLY TIPPING. I know this because I used to live next to this lady in Red Lodge who kept getting jealous that another woman was coming out to speak to her husband when he would leave for work or come home. She went out there and fussed her out one good time, and the following week her garbage bin was stolen and someone reported her in because they found HER gargabe out in a farmers field.... I guess thats what ya get for fussing someone out. Also, I have gotten a flyer for illegal garbage/rubbish dumping when I moved to a new house and was supplied bins. Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. Fly-tipping can be dangerous, pollutes land and waterways and costs the council tax payer significant amounts of money to clear away. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/WhereYouLive/Streetcleaninglitterandillegaldumping/DG_10029700 What happens if Good Ol Vince dumps your garbage in a field, and charged you $20.00 for it? Dumping household, industrial and commercial waste illegally is a serious criminal offence that carries a fine of up to £20,000 (unlimited if the case goes to the Crown Court) or an offender can even be sent to prison. It is also an offence to permit fly-tipping. Local councils treat this problem very seriously and will usually prosecute anyone caught fly-tipping waste.

wifey (Mod) --- 15 years ago -

Its a serious offense so you should be grateful of "rule sticklers"

??? --- 15 years ago -

I just wouldn't TRUST anyone that says "Yeah sure i'll take it to the dump" & you never see or hear from them ever again. Then one day...... you get a phone call or visit to your work/home and your under investigation and in a whole world if trouble. The woman who I was refering to, she said they actually came to her work!! When I was talking with her about it she was upset and in tears. So...... musta not been good outcome.

??? --- 15 years ago -

As far as the garbage dumpster on Feltwell, there is SO much crap in it. There was a recliner, desk, couch, bathroom caddys, bags of garbage, broken parts of furniture, fans, kitchen table, chairs. I see *people* dumping stuff there EVERY SINGLE DAY. These are every day people, unloading their garbage into it. There is ALSO a small recycling spot when you come into base housing area. There are spots for Glass, and Cardboard, as there is one on Lakenheath & Mildenhall aswell.

WitnessProtectionProgram --- 15 years ago -

We just came from Germany and it got so bad on base, they were sending military out and cutting open trash in the big trash bins to find peoples personal info on it to tag them. Im not sure what happened to the people who were found out but I know it wasn't good.

Denise --- 15 years ago -

Yeah, that's where I bring my extra bags of garbage, if I have it. I don't ever dump weird stuff in there...just extra household garbage if I have :-) some people just leave their old furniture out by the recycle area in Feltwell, and THAT would be illegal :-)

Wouldnt you like to know --- 15 years ago -

Well with all the recommendations I read on Vince I trust him. True I don't know what he does with it but being he is part of the military people here I trust him. Sometimes that is all you can trust.

BW0302 --- 15 years ago -

KMS, I'm not trying to deter you from using Vince, nor do I have anything negative to say about Vince (except about him re homing his animal, but that is another post) but you did say that you trust him because he is military? I don't think that's a good reason to trust anyone. I've known plenty of military who were and are scum. Just because they have stripes doesn't mean they are trustworthy and good people.

Amanda --- 15 years ago -

If you don't like the 'rules' then don't stick to them, that's your choice :) But it really doesn't hurt having people telling others what the law is about these things. I don't trust Vince for a number of good reasons, it doesn't matter to me whether he is military or not. I had bad experiences with him.

??? --- 15 years ago -

I 100% agree with BW0302 about not trusting someone with stripes. He (Vince) isn't even military, he is a dependant. (Nothing wrong with dependants- I am a dependant) If you don't know where he is taking your garbage why are you letting him take it?????? LOL!!!! You may just be setting yourself up for something you dont want to be apart of. However, its your choice...People should just haul their garbage to the dump themselves. I have a 4 door sedan car and I have put garbage in the trunk or backseat depending on what it was--- just TAKE it there its not that hard. You drive up to the bins, throw it in the bins that are labelled and you drive away. Its on the SAME road as the front gate of RAFL

Amy --- 15 years ago -

Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Redlodge, Ely, littleport all have dump sites as well as all three bases and everyone has a trunk in there car or truck. So there an easy solution most are even open on Sundays. I got Vince and he was great but if you are worried there are your options or you can call someone licensed and pay a lot more.

lalaro --- 15 years ago -

well this was informative. Thanks to the people who helped! I'll hunt the place down this weekend...if I'm not to hungover...
