Seriously today on LYS someone posted a 2000 VW with 120,000 miles and asked for $5,000.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.. now for some reason it says $4,000.. but STILL.. Why are people posting junk cars for high prices. I am tired of seeing their insensible ads! Makes me mad. On top of that now we have car sales places filling up the site with MORE junk cars for a HIGH cost!! Its hard to just look through that section and filter out all the crap cars/prices. Ugh. Sorry I just had to vent!

honey --- 15 years ago -

I understand..I see cars with rediculously high mileage for sale with high "sticker prices" But I am one of those people that have a car for sale for $13.5k the car is worth more than what we are wanting..but we are not in a rush to sell, if we sell we sell it if we don't..we don't But I do agree with you Cassie

Cassie --- 15 years ago -

same here I have two nice cars up for sale. BOTH are well worth the cost! Because I honestly am in no rush to sell and if they don't sell it is no biggie. But I am looking to buy and automatic here eventually. But all I see is horrible prices for a car that is in awful condition!

Julie --- 15 years ago -

I don't get it. Some of these cars are crap... I wouldn't pay $100 for them and their asking for thousands! I can see the higher prices on the nicer cars, the newer cars, but some of these ads... wow Japan you could buy a 10-15 year old car for $500 and it would last you the entire 4 year tour. Not to mention you could re-sell said car for $500 and get your money back...

Knick --- 15 years ago -

Listen I agree 100 percent but it is with all items! WHO would be stupid enough to pay for any SKY or BT items when you get them all for free during install? WHO would pay the even more ridiculous prices that are on here for 2nd hand computers? Almost 99 percent are over priced to the extreme! Problem is that people cannot properly value their items or they place personal value on them which is not going to sell! USE Ebay to get a grasp on how to price things you want to sell!!!!

Knick- Not only do I have a nice car on there for sale, but I also have a mini laptop that has only been turned on maybe 5 times. To some it may be over priced, but you will not get everything that comes with my computer and not have to pay shipping. We are losing money on it. But again if it sells, it sells, if not then oh well..not a big deal I'm not really hurting for the money, but I am not going to just give away my computer that is brand new with extras..so someone can try to sell it for more! This is not an attack on you, I noticed you mentioned people selling second hand computers, so i thought i would 'pop' in. But, I do agree with everything else, I notice people trying to sell nasty looking clothes, a stuffed doll that looks like a voo-doo doll, you name it they try to sell it.

honey --- 15 years ago -

Julie- I agree about the cars..Our last base stateside..you could find decent priced good running cars..over here i guess people figure they can sale cars for whatever price they want b/c people (airmen) will need a car and they will hopefully buy it..which is wrong for people to do. 'Help one another out' Also, I think some people will post vehichles in Pounds so the car seems cheaper than it really is. But it is not hard for people to figure it out on their own either. I know when we first got here everything seemed so cheap just looking at the 'sticker price' but in reality it wasn't Don't screw your fellow airmen with stupid prices on a junker!

WHO would be stupid enough to pay for any SKY or BT items when you get them all for free during install? You don't always get a free Sky Box. Only during certain deals will you get one for free. We missed out on the free Sky Plus box by a week and had to pay for ours.

honey --- 15 years ago -

yeah we had to pay for our BT stuff..

Cassie --- 15 years ago -

Its actually illegal to resell your Sky box!.. not to mention the viewing card is no good and if you sell someone your Sky box without removing your viewing card they can watch Sky on your dime!

Elisabeth --- 15 years ago -

I bought a Sky box on LYS...realized afterwards it would have been better to pay more to Sky for an extra box...but when I called Sky to get new viewing cards for the used boxes I bought from an AF couple I told Sky that I had bought the extra boxes from a friend. They didn't say anything about it being illegal. And I've seen ads for companies (not on LYS) that buy back Sky boxes. But anyways the seller would cancel their viewing cards by calling Sky so the cards won't work for the buyer until the buyer calls Sky and gets new viewing cards (in their name) sent to them. I do agree with you about how badly priced things, especially cars, are. I have an older car, but a lot that are posted have more miles and cost more.

Honey, no problem not everyone is over priced but generally most computer items are. Just to give you an example, sry if this offends, there is a Toshiba Satellite for sale, 2years old. The price is $700 used, you can buy a brand new Toshiba, a better and upgraded one for about $650. They may have paid $900 for it two years ago, but now it is only worth about $300 if that because now Toshiba doesn't make the parts for it and warrantys have expired. It just irks me thats all. As far as Sky and BT I have gotten everything free and actually have 4 Sky Boxes sitting in storage at the moment. May it was just good timing as I have a BT modem., Sky modem, Plusnet Modem all have been free as well. If anyone is interested SKY is doing the HD boxes for free as we speak!! You only have to pay for the install!

honey --- 15 years ago -

Knick, I see that a lot as well. Same for T.V.'s...I don't know why..but I remember paying for our Hub and modem! hmm..

Cassie --- 15 years ago -

Yeah we did the upgrade to HD with Sky. I have to say we were very disappointed in the gentleman that installed it. He was rude and left mud all over my brand new carpets! We also have internet through BT and had our hub for a little over a year before it just stopped working proper. We went a bought a non BT one and it works wonders! No more hub kicking me off the internet!

Voice of Reason --- 15 years ago -

I think the problem is peoples standards differ, here is a site which gives buyers an idea on second hand car prices: http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/used-car-prices/ That said most cars (even scrappers with no MOT) are worth at least £200 for parts then weighed in. I paid £400 for an engine alone (then labour) for my lemon which was cheaper than buying even the cheapest 7 seater.

Amy --- 15 years ago -

Cassie: My stupid BT hub kicks me off my wireless all the time and it drives me crazy were did you go to get a new one?

Shannon --- 15 years ago -

My HD install was also a disappointment. I paid 79 GBP for my HD box that was advertised as compatible with all HD ready TV - Which it is NOT. He said I need this and that so I went out and bought this and that only to find out that my HDTV did not have the proper cable inlet required for the HDTV box. So I dont have HD- I use it for the recording factor. I think you are only allowed one free box now and anything else you need to pay for, that is why there is a second hand market. Why spend 200GBP when you can buy a used one under 100? I have had to pay for all my BT and Sky boxes. Our first BT hub was junk. It kept kicking us off too, I thought it was our line, but when we moved it did the same thing. Amy, I have an extra BT home hub that you can have to see if it works any better. It did for us at least.
